ICMR–National Institute for Research in Bacterial Infections (ICMR–NIRBI), Kolkata, successfully convened the One Day Symposium 2026 on 19 February 2026, fostering high-level scientific dialogue on priority areas of infectious disease research.
Dr. Santasabuj Das, Director, delivered an overview of ICMR–NIRBI’s journey in advancing research, highlighting key milestones, institutional collaborations, and the institute’s evolving translational focus in combating antimicrobial resistance.
The symposium featured focused deliberations on Bacterial Infections and Immunology, emerging perspectives in Omics and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), and strategic discussions on Therapeutics, Vaccines, Clinical Trials, and Epidemiology.
Scientific sessions were enriched by eminent experts from diverse disciplines, namely Prof. Gaurinath Samudrala (Jawaharlal Nehru University); Dr. Amirul Islam Mallick (IISER Kolkata); Dr. Ritesh Ranjan Pal (IACS Kolkata); Dr. Dipankar Maji; Dr. Saravanan Matheshwaran (IIT Kanpur); Dr. Anuj Sharma (WHO); Dr. Saugata Hazra (IIT Roorkee); Dr. Souvik Mukherjee (NIBMG, Kalyani); and Dr. Punyasloke Bhadury (IISER Kolkata). Their insights underscored the urgency of collaborative, interdisciplinary, and translational approaches to address the growing challenge of antimicrobial resistance.
Through evidence-based discourse and cross-sectoral engagement, the symposium reaffirmed ICMR–NIRBI’s commitment to scientific excellence and public health leadership.
