Consultation

He is available for consultation on OP days at Holy Cross Hospital¸ Kollam and at his evening private clinic by appointment. During consultations due importance is given in listening patiently to the problems and their concerns¸ as part of his sincere attempt to find an amicable solution to the issue for which he is approached by the patient He is available as Consultant-on-call round the clock to attend emergencies of in-patients admitted at hospital or of out-patients brought to the Causality department of hospital.

Diagnosis

Making the right clinical Diagnosis is undoubtedly the cornerstone in appropriate patient management irrespective of the case or place where he is treated; and trying to reach the correct diagnosis with minimum¸ but the most relevant investigations¸ is what we earnestly strive for in the clinical process. In situations of diagnostic dilemmas he grossly depends on his clinical skills and the practical experience that he has gathered over the years.

Treatment

Treatment is the endpoint for which any patient approaches a doctor and the ever-expanding technological advances in today´s medical world throws up a plethora of options by which each problem can be handled. We consider that it is the responsibility of the treating doctor to give a frank explanation of all available treatment modalities for the patient´s problem, not concealing even the ones that cannot be accessed in his department. Thus the patient gets due involvement in the treatment planning process¸ with a reasonable understanding of the success rates¸ limitations¸ non-operative options¸ cost-effectiveness and long term outcomes of the chosen treatment.

Surgery

Contrary to the popular notion about most surgeons, he is one GI Surgeon who ardently sticks to the principle of ‘Primum non nocere’ (primarily do no harm). Hence if surgery has been advised to his patient¸ it will be only after all other less invasive or non-operative options have been considered or exhausted. Though equipped with the professional competence to do most open abdominal surgeries through the currently popular ‘key-hole route’ as well¸ he exercises extreme caution in his recommendation of choice between open and laparoscopic surgeries. For each surgery he takes in to consideration the risk-benefit ratio to the patient¸ chances of compromise in treatment¸ patient safety concerns¸ cost-effectiveness of procedure and available evidence in literature while at the same time highlighting the time-tested and convincing advantages of key-hole surgery.
