Not every spotting means your period has started.
Sometimes, light bleeding can happen when a fertilized egg attaches to the uterus — this is called implantation bleeding.
Many people confuse implantation bleeding with a regular period because some symptoms may look similar.
But there are a few key differences:
• Implantation bleeding is usually very light spotting
• The color may appear light pink or brown
• It often lasts a few hours to 1–2 days
• Cramps, if present, are usually mild
A regular period on the other hand is typically heavier, lasts longer (3–7 days), may include clots, and can come with stronger cramps.
If you notice unusual spotting around the time your period is expected, it may be helpful to wait until a missed period and then take a pregnancy test.
Understanding your body’s signals can help you feel more confident and aware during your fertility journey.
