Ayurveda advises that proper health can be maintained by taking care on food and good regimens, eliminating the waste things from the body and by reducing the elevated doshas.
Different Acharya’s have different opinions on cleaning the body from doshas. To eliminate the doshas, Ayurveda has 'Panchakarma therapy'. It includes,
• Vamana
• Virechana
• Vasthi
• Nasyam, and
• Rakthamoksha
Along with these methods, some more treatment measures are using traditionally for maintaining the health.
-Abhyanga
-Swedana

Importance of Panchakarma Therapy
There are 3 doshas in the body, Vata, Pitta and Kapha.
These are responsible for all the healthy States and also the diseased states of the body. When the doshas are in proper quantity and quality, then the state of body can be termed as 'healthy'.
But when the doshas get worsened, either reduced or incresed, then it leads to the diseased state of the body. When the doshas get into ksheenavastha(reduced state) it should be treated by nourishing type of therapies. When it is in kupithavastha(increased state), then it should be eliminated from the body with panchakarma therapies.
Before doing Panchakarma therapies, the body should be treated with oil massage and swedana therapies. It is to preapare the body for the main treatments.
Along with the internal therapies some of the treatment methods which are applied externally also practiced according to the condition.
-Lepana
-Pichu
