What makes more happy?
This was something i woke up to. One of my previous therapy client’s mom sent me the texts shared.

When he was referred from one of the other clinic, mother was near to exhaustion with her son’s fear of taking food. For every meal she tries to feed him, he would throw up minimum 2-3 times. So in a day she had to clean his mess up more than 10 times a day.She couldn’t attend any functions just because he can’t enjoy the food and if he throw up it would be a mess. His vegetative skills were also poor. The little one would tell me “vaanthi” just because he knew he is going to throw up and that would make his mamma sad and also to clean the mess.

We started working with him slowly dealing with his fear of food and also using the Talktools for working with his oromotor skills for feeding and this is what he has turned to be today.
I am super proud of him and his parents for not giving up on his feeding.
Fellow SLPs, there would be somedays when we think are we doing it right or are we really going to make a difference. That is totally okay. Not all the days in our profession would be good but i promise both the good and bad are our steps to get better.
I am grateful to God for all the learnings and the happy testimonies too. Without God, i am sure I can’t do any of these.

When their child does not respond to his name, many parents become concerned. Adults find it challenging to call children's attention or get them to stop what they're doing as a result.
One of the earliest social behaviors our babies learn is to respond to their names. Babies usually start responding to their names around 8-10 months.

What a wonderful way to begin the new year! The voices of my children wishing me a happy new year.

My favourite SLP moments involve looking back to when they first came to me for therapy and hearing their present wishes. Parents love it when their child first starts talking, and I think we therapists love it even more when we hear them speak each new word after a lot of stimulation.

All of the children whose voices you just heard could only speak in one word or never spoke at all, but who can now even wish me a happy new year. I cherish the times I take speech therapy for my little ones.

Dear SLPs, if you've ever had any doubts about your profession or your therapeutic skills, let me reassure you that you are all impacting someone’s life. Keep striving forward.

Thank you, dear parents, for never giving up on your kids and for entrusting them to speech therapists like me.
If God willing, I hope we can all continue to create memories and have an impact on other people's lives in the new year.
