“Understanding a Child’s Cry: കുട്ടി കരയുമ്പോൾ ശ്രദ്ധിക്കേണ്ടത്”

In this session, Ms. Mary Praisy from Sravana Speech & Hearing Centre explains that a child’s cry is not just noise—it is communication. One of the most common reasons children cry is hunger. When meal times are irregular or routines are missing, children become unsettled both physically and emotionally. Often, what appears as misbehaviour is simply the child expressing a basic need.

Ms. Mary Praisy reminds parents that children experience big feelings in small bodies. They may feel tired, overwhelmed or frustrated but lack the words to explain it. Crying becomes their voice. In such moments, she encourages parents to respond with connection rather than correction.

She highlights the power of a tight, reassuring hug. Physical closeness, calm presence and gentle expressions of love and care help children regulate their emotions and feel safe. These responses tell the child, “I see you, I understand you and I am here.”
At Sravana, families are guided to listen to a child’s cry with empathy, supported by routines, emotional awareness and consistent expressions of care.

“Role Models at Home: കുട്ടികൾ നമ്മളിൽ നിന്നാണ് പഠിക്കുന്നത്!”

In this session, Ms. Mary Praisy from Sravana Speech & Hearing Centre speaks about how a chaotic home environment affects children. Regular arguments, fights, toxic communication, behavioural issues and emotional stress can place heavy mental pressure and emotional trauma on a child. Even when adults think children are not noticing, they are constantly observing and absorbing what happens around them.

Ms. Mary Praisy reminds parents that parents are a child’s first role models. Children learn how to communicate, handle conflict and choose relationships based on what they see at home. They naturally gravitate towards people who show care, love, kindness and safety. When these values are modelled at home, children carry them into their friendships and future relationships.

At Sravana, families are guided to build healthier communication and emotionally safe environments for children to grow.

Listen Beyond Ears:

In this session, Ms. Mary Praisy from Sravana Speech & Hearing Centre explains why listening to children goes far beyond hearing their words. Children communicate using all their senses—eyes, ears, touch, smell, taste—and an additional sense called Proprioception, which helps them understand their body’s position and movement. These subtle cues often reveal what they feel or want long before they speak.

Ms. Mary Praisy highlights that full-body listening means keeping your eyes open, ears open and attention present. Children quickly notice when we are busy or distracted, and they stop sharing. By watching their facial expressions, body language and tone, parents can understand what children mean even before they speak. These small movements are meaningful—they are their words. At Sravana, we guide families to notice these gentle signals so children feel heard, understood and emotionally supported as they grow.

Ask, Explore, Connect:

In this session, Ms. Mary Praisy from Sravana Speech & Hearing Centre encourages parents to ask children about their day — and guide them to explain properly instead of giving one-word responses. When kids describe what really happened, it builds vocabulary, sentence skills, emotional expression and gives parents a clearer picture of their everyday experiences.

She explains that instead of accepting short replies like “good” or “fine,” parents can gently ask follow-up questions like “What happened next?” or “Tell me more.” This simple habit encourages children to think, talk and connect more deeply. At Sravana, families are guided to build these meaningful communication routines that strengthen bonding and support natural language development.

Tiny Words, Big Feelings:

In this session, Ms. Mary Praisy from Sravana Speech & Hearing Centre explains why decoding a child’s communication can feel so tricky. Children often say something simple, but the meaning behind it is much bigger. For example, when you’re travelling and your child says, “That chocolate is so tasty,” it may not be just a comment. They might be telling you they have eaten it before, or they might be hinting that they want it now. Children speak in clues, not always in clear sentences.

Ms. Mary Praisy reminds parents that children are people with big feelings living in a small world. Their emotions are intense, immediate and often hard for them to express directly. That’s why when we take a scoop of ice cream, they may suddenly get upset — not because of the ice cream itself, but because of the fear that it might get over, or the anger of losing something they love. These reactions are not misbehaviour, but emotional signals. Understanding these signs helps parents respond calmly and supportively, strengthening trust and connection.

At Sravana, we help families learn these decoding skills to better understand what children truly feel and mean.

Repeat, Smile, Connect:

In this session, Ms. Mary Praisy from Sravana Speech & Hearing Centre explains how repeating back what a child says—with joy and excitement—can transform communication. When a child shares something and we respond by happily repeating their words, it tells them, “Your voice matters. What you say is important.” This simple act builds curiosity, interest and confidence in them. Children feel encouraged and become more eager to talk, explore and connect with us.

Ms. Mary Praisy highlights that communication becomes meaningful when it feels fun and emotionally warm for the child. A smile, an excited tone and joyful repetition help children feel understood and valued. When parents respond in this way, children start relating more deeply and naturally come back to share more of their world. At Sravana, we guide families to create these positive communication moments—because joyful interaction strengthens bonding and supports healthy language growth.

Respect Their Cues:

In this session, Ms. Mary Praisy from Sravana Speech & Hearing Centre explains how children often use simple words to express deeper needs. When a child says “I’m not hungry,” parents may assume stubbornness or pickiness. But many times, the real message is something else: “I’m tired,” “I’m full,” “I’m overstimulated,” or “I need a break.” Children communicate through small clues, not long explanations — and it is our responsibility to listen beyond the words.

Ms. Mary Praisy emphasizes that when a child indicates they are not hungry, the most important thing to do is respect that message. Pressuring them to eat can create frustration, anxiety and mistrust. But when parents accept their signal calmly, children feel understood and safe. With time, this builds healthier communication habits and a stronger bond.

At Sravana, families learn to decode these emotional cues so children grow in confidence and feel comfortable sharing what they really need.

PART 3— How to Help Your Child Start Talking at Home 🏡🗣️

In Part 3 of the session, Ms. Mary Praisy from Sravana Speech & Hearing Centre shares simple, everyday techniques that parents can use to build early speech skills. Children learn best through connection — and when parents slow down, listen, label objects and model clear words, talking becomes natural and stress-free.

She emphasises responsive communication: follow your child’s lead, expand the sounds they make, celebrate every little attempt, and keep conversations warm and simple. With small daily habits like mealtime talking, play-time interactions and story-time cues, parents can turn ordinary moments into powerful communication opportunities.
