World Sight Day - INSIGHT 2024
Vasan Eye Care, Kottayam, in association with the Kerala Federation of the Blind, celebrated INSIGHT 2024: Saving Sight, Encouraging Strength at JOY Mall, Kottayam.
The event was inaugurated by District Collector, Shri. John Samuel, who emphasized the importance of such an awareness program for eye health protection. He mentioned that public involvement is crucial in supporting those facing vision challenges. The Honorable MP, Adv. Francis George, and District Panchayat President, K.V. Bindu, also spoke at the event and led the distribution of white canes to those with vision impairments.
The event began with a welcome speech by Mr. Alby Cyriac, Senior Executive for Health Care Promotions at Vasan Eye Care. Following that, Shri. Jayaraj P., State Secretary of the Kerala Federation of the Blind, Robin Thampy, Regional Manager of Joy Alukkas (Kerala Zone), Aneesh K.R., Branch Manager of Jolly Silks, Dr. Asha James, Senior Consultant at Vasan Eye Care, and Mr. Sam, HR Manager at Joy Mall, addressed the gathering.
Mathew Thomas, Centre Head of Vasan Eye Care, Kottayam, delivered the vote of thanks. The event had a chess tournament for the visually impaired, where the winners were awarded by the District Panchayat President.
Several demonstrations showcasing the abilities of visually impaired individuals were also held, including:
• Chess tournament for the visually impaired
• Braille demonstration
• Exhibition of assistive technologies
Additionally, interactive activities for the public such as Feel the Blind, Insight Signature Campaign (Pledge for Better Vision), blindfolded Cup Pyramid Building, Coin Identification, and Grooming were conducted, drawing much attention and participation.
INSIGHT 2024 was a remarkable and enriching experience that highlighted the importance of sight preservation and support for those facing visual challenges.
