Grief & Bereavement Support – Philippines 🇵🇭
The Institute of Palliative Medicine (India), along with the Death Literacy Institute (Australia), had the privilege of facilitating a 6-hour learning and reflection session with a dedicated group of participants from the Philippines.
We reflected together on:
• Unpacking common beliefs and misunderstandings about grief
• Recognising where well-intentioned support can sometimes go wrong
• Shaping grief models to fit the cultural and social realities of the Philippines
• Supporting children through their own experiences of loss
• Speaking with compassion when words feel hard to find
• Offering steady companionship — being fully present without trying to “fix” grief
The conversations reminded us that while grief is universal, the ways we offer care must be grounded in compassion, cultural sensitivity, and genuine human connection.
We are deeply grateful for the openness, stories, and wisdom shared by the group — and for the reminder that sometimes, the greatest gift we can offer is simply our attentive presence. 🌿
