Kalmaas - a new discovery for me atleast...This is a Kannur specialty. Learnt about this from my daughter, Raavi, who lives in Kannur. While the original is made from a rice flour dough and with a stuffing of meat, i decided to use a stuffing of mussels. And while the original is fried , I made a healthier version by just steaming it. And , that is was what we had for nombu thura(iftaar) today...

On the menu there are a bunch of Mappila favourites including Arikadukka, Kozhi nirachathu, Meen nirachathu, Maasu charu, Crab masala. If you are a seafood enthusiast, you must come over and visit. I am here in Bangalore till the 15th and you will find me at the restaurant daily from 10am - 3 pm and in the evening from 7.30pm - 9.30 pm. Kappa Chakka Kandhari, Koramangala, Bangalore

I am happy to announce that the winner of this year's V.Abdulla translation award is Dr Jayasree Kalathil for her beautiful translation of Sheela Tomy 's Valli, a saga of four generations set against the lush background of Wayanad region. Both the book and the translation are worthy of many accolades. Congrats


The award function will be held on 27th May at Mathurbhumi - Kesavan Menon hall in Kozhikode at 5 pm.
