Palliative care improves the quality of life of people afflicted by life threatening or incurable disease. It supports the patient in relieving their pain and minimises suffering. Palliative care includes outpatient care to those who are ambulant, home visits for all those who are bed-ridden, inpatient care if needed, and above all, the supply of pain relief and other medications for all. Proper understanding of the painful plight and existence of these terminally ill people will go a long way in our endeavor to render loving care and help to such patients so that they can lead a normal, positive and fulfilled life in their remaining days. A model for compassionate high quality pain and palliative care service, Pallium Kulasekharam aims to bring support and relief, often in remote and isolated rural areas, through its care centre. Where cure is difficult it shifts care to improve the quality of life of the patient and their family. Thus Pallium Kulasekharam was launched on 24th May 2013 and we are now a registered public charity. With the support of the WHO (World Health Organisation) Collaborating Center for Policy and Training on Access to Pain Relief at PALLIUM INDIA, Thiruvananthapuram, we offer care to the people in and around the town of Kulasekharam and the neighbouring towns beyond. We are currently the only palliative care centre in the district of Kanyakumari.
