*DH Kulgam conducts its first ever successful total Hip replacement surgery under AB-PMJAY Ayushman Bharat scheme)* Kulgam, 24 March 2025: *A Team of Doctors from District Hospital Kulgam conducted its first total Hip replacement surgery under ayushman Bharat scheme.* The surgery team was headed by *Dr Towseef Ahmad Bhat, Consultant orthopaedican* and assisted by Dr Abid & Dr Danish. The Anaesthesia and Critical team Support was headed by Dr Omer Bashir Consultant Anaesthesia in addition to technicians including Shabir Ahmad, Rifat Abdullah, Farooq Ahmad & other supporting staff. The entire process was done under the supervision of *Dr A G Raina, Medical superintendent DH Kulgam* who provided all logistic and moral support. The operated patient was a 47 year old female - a case of severe osteoarthritis right hip with pain and difficulty in walking. It is important to mention that such surgical procedures costs about Rs 2 to 2.5 lac in private setup but it was done under AB -PMJAY at free of cost.

First successful L5S1 transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF ) spine surgery performed at District Hospital Kulgam.

Department of Orthopedics District Hospital Kulgam achieved a new milestone by performing a successful L5 S1 TLIF ( trans foraminal lumbar interbody fusion) surgery.

Team of orthopedic surgeons lead by consultant Orthopedics Dr Towseef Ahmad Bhat successfully performed TLIF L5 S1 on a 33 year old female patient suffering from L5 S1 spondylolisthesis causing severe pain in her back and left lower limb. After the surgery patient is recovering well and has shown significant relief in her symptoms.

Ayushman Bharat scheme which otherwise would have costed her 2.5 to 3 lakhs.

Successful First Total Knee Replacement Surgery at District Hospital Kulgam

District Hospital Kulgam achieved a significant milestone in medical care with the successful completion of its first-ever total knee replacement surgery. The procedure was conducted on a 65-year-old female patient suffering from grade IV right knee osteoarthritis, which had severely impacted her ability to carry out daily activities due to intense pain.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Towseef Ahmad Bhat and Dr. Danish, with essential support from Mr. Imtiyaz. The anesthesia team, led by Dr. Naseer and assisted by Mr. Shabir Ahmad Shah, ensured a smooth and safe process. A dedicated OT team, including Mr. Ghulam Mohiuddin (OT In-charge), Imdad Ali, Mr. Muzaffar, Rouf Ahmad, Farooq Ahmad, and Ab Gani, played a vital role in the success of this groundbreaking procedure.

The surgery was made possible due to the keen interest and continuous support of MS Dr. A.G. Raina, who facilitated all the logistical arrangements required for this complex procedure. Special gratitude is extended to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam for providing the latest model anesthesia work station, which contributed significantly to the success of the surgery. Acknowledgment is also given to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kulgam for their cooperation.

This achievement marks a significant step forward in enhancing the healthcare services available at District Hospital Kulgam, demonstrating the hospital's commitment to providing world-class medical care to the community.
