Comminuted Midshaft Humerus Fracture in a 71-Year-Old Male – Case of Gopalan(Imaginary Name).
Patient visited V. Chandran Gurukkal Kairali Ayurvedic Hospital, Karanthur, Calicut, Kerala today.
This X-ray image shows the right upper arm (humerus) of a 71-year-old male patient. Based on the radiograph:
Diagnosis:
Comminuted fracture of the midshaft of the right humerus.
Observations:
There is a clear break in the continuity of the humeral shaft.
The fractured bone appears displaced and angulated, with multiple fragments—a classic sign of a comminuted fracture.
The alignment of the bone is severely altered, indicating significant displacement.
The proximal and distal fragments are not in line, and soft tissue shadowing suggests likely surrounding muscle trauma.
Clinical Correlation:
Such fractures in elderly patients often occur due to low-velocity trauma (like falls) because of osteoporotic bones.
Symptoms would include severe pain, swelling, and an inability to move the arm.
