*Doc my child has cough and cold since 2-3 months...*

Dear parents since few weeks I have observed many children are getting repeated cough and cold infection and parents are very worried about them..
Parents are asking is my child weak ? Is his or her immune system in effective or not working properly? Is there major pathology or disease... Please do all investigations for cough pneumonia etc etc.
I understand the questions which come to parents mind when child is coughing intermittently since few weeks... That's why I decided to write basic information about cough and current scenario.

What are coughs?
Cough is one of the most common symptom of viral infection maybe due to sore throat maybe because of bronchial infection or maybe pneumonia.
Cough help to protect the Airways in the throat and chest.
Simple example is...
When you are drinking water or having any food if some part try to enter in your airway then the receptors in your airway get activated and they initiate cough .. and remove that particles from the airway. this way cough is protective.

Sometimes though a cough need pediatrician's consultation. As there are many different kinds of coughs.
Most common type of cough are

barkey cough
whooping cough
Coughing with wheezing
Night time cough
Daytime cough
Cough associated with fever
Cough with vomiting
persistent cough.
Intentional or habitual cough.

Common causes of cough are
Croup - infection of upper airway in which there is swelling and associated with strider

Whooping cough also known as pertussis.
In this condition children have spells of back to back cover without breathing in between and after coughing bout they take a deep breath.
This infection is easily prevented with vaccination.

Bronchiolitis.
In this condition of is associated with wheezing and breathlessness.
Wheezing Is a whistling sound occurrin......
