Animal Husbandry Department Leh observed month of compassion and public awareness workshop at village phobrang.

During this camp, different animal species were treated for diseases , mostly wild animal attacks, dog bites, lameness & other managemental diseases.

Public were made aware about different diseases, their sign and symptoms and treatment. They were also made aware about routine FMD and Brucella vaccinations.
Doctors, Paravets and Mobile Veterinary Unit of Durbuk Sub-division participated in the said camp.

LEH, June 12, 2025 – The Animal Husbandry Department Leh today launched the “One Household, One Cow – Empowering Sustainable Rural Livelihood" scheme with the distribution of 40 cross-bred Jersey cows/heifers.
The inaugural event, held at the Bull Mother Farm Agling, marks a significant step towards bolstering the dairy sector and fostering financial independence among rural households in Ladakh.
The scheme, offering a substantial 90% subsidy on the bovines, aims to distribute a total of 150 cows. The initial phase saw 40 carefully selected cows distributed to beneficiaries.
Hon’ble Executive Councillor, Tashi Namgyal Yakzee (Animal Husbandry Department), graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his address, the Chief Guest highlighted the signing of a 5-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with NDDB, underscoring a collaborative effort to advance Ladakh's dairy sector. He also extended his gratitude to the veterinary doctors for their meticulous efforts in the cow selection process.

Dr. Mohd Ismail, Director Animal Husbandry & Fisheries Dept, UT Ladakh, emphasized the scheme's prime objective: to develop farmers and ensure their sustainable growth for the future.

Dr. Stanzin Rabgyas, Chief Animal Husbandry, elaborated on the scheme's potential to create sustainable rural livelihoods. He particularly noted its benefit for women housekeepers, enabling them to generate income through dairy product sales and achieve financial independence. Dr. Rabgyas also informed attendees about the 1962 call center number, a dedicated service for farmers to request doorstep health check-ups and veterinary services for their cows.
The event saw the presence of notable figures including Hon’ble Councillor Phyang Tundup Nurboo Cheeta, Hon'ble Councillor Basgo Tsewang Nurboo, officers and officials from Animal Husbandry Department, and beneficiaries from various villages across Leh district.

Animal Husbandry Department Leh Conducts Awareness Camps in Tia and Tingmosgang.

Leh, 7th March 2025: As part of the Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CCS) - National Animal Disease Control Programme and the observance of Animal Husbandry & Animal Welfare Month, the Animal Husbandry Department Leh conducted awareness camps in the villages of Tingmosgang and Tia.

The camps, held on March 5, 2025, were aimed at educating the local communities about various departmental schemes and raising awareness about common diseases affecting livestock. The sessions were led by the Block Veterinary Officer of Khaltsi and the Veterinary Assistant Surgeon of the Mobile Veterinary Unit, Khaltsi, who briefed the participants on preventative measures, disease control, and best practices for livestock care.

In addition to the informative sessions, on-the-spot treatment of animals was provided, and supplements and medicines for livestock were distributed free of charge to the villagers. Animal Husbandry Department Leh conducts awareness camps in Nubra.

The Department of Animal Husbandry, Leh, conducted a series of animal health awareness camps under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP) in villages Tiggar, Skampuk, Parta and Terchey from February 25th to 27th, 2025.
Over 120 livestock breeders participated in the camps, which focused on crucial aspects of animal health management and disease control. A primary emphasis was placed on the importance of timely and complete Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccination for cattle, as well as Brucellosis vaccination for female calves aged 4 to 8 months.
The camps also provided vital information on various zoonotic diseases, including Brucellosis, Tuberculosis (TB), Hydatidosis, and Rabies, and preventive measures to safeguard both animal and human health.

112 Stray dogs Sterilized & Vaccinated in 3 days.

ABC&AR team of The Animal Husbandry Department Leh successfully organized a 3-day Animal Birth Control & Anti-Rabies camp in the villages of Surchuchan, Tingmosgang, and Tia from February 17th to February 19th, 2025.

During the camps, a total of 45 stray dogs at Skurbuchan, 22 dogs at Tingmosgang 45 dogs at Tia were sterilized and vaccinated against rabies.

These camps were carried out in coordination with the local villagers. The community members and village representatives expressed their appreciation for the department’s efforts in controlling stray dog population.
