From Lockdown to Legacy: A Story of Reviving Ladakh's Soil
When we started Ladakh Basket, it was during the uncertainty of COVID-19 and lockdowns. That moment of crisis opened our eyes to something deeper — the urgent need for organic farming and self-reliance, especially in a fragile ecosystem like Ladakh.
For years, Ladakh had been exposed to chemical fertilizers, harming not just the soil, but our water, our health, and the rich biodiversity of our homeland.
That’s when we took our first step — conducting our first awareness program on organic farming in Liktsey village, which we proudly adopted as our first organic model village.
We even brought organic manure from Changthang, supporting our nomadic community — the true mountain guardians of Ladakh — by creating a new source of income for them.
Today, 5 years later, our farmers smile as they watch their ancestral lands revive through indigenous and organic methods that nurture, not harm.
Here, a 76-year-old respected Ama-lay shares her joy and wisdom — a living testimony that going back to our roots is the way forward.
Because this journey was never just about selling —
It’s about healing the land, empowering our people, and honoring our heritage.
This is Ladakh Basket. This is for our future.
