Exercising with Diabetes? Here's what you need to know to stay safe and strong.
Exercise is one of the best ways to manage blood sugar—but it must be done mindfully.
Here are some essential Do’s and Don’ts to follow if you're living with diabetes:
DO:
- Check your blood sugar before you start
- Stay hydrated throughout
- Carry quick sugar (like glucose tablets or juice)
- Choose safe activities like walking, yoga, or light strength training
- Always cool down and stretch after your workout
DON'T:
- Skip meals before working out
- Exercise with very high or very low sugar levels
- Ignore warning signs like dizziness or shakiness
- Push yourself too hard—build up intensity gradually
Pre-workout tip: Eat a light carb snack, wear proper shoes, and monitor sugar.
Post-workout tip: Have a protein-rich snack, recheck your sugar, and hydrate well.
Your health is your power—move smart, stay safe!
