Mental Health and Marital Challenges:
A Call for Change….,
Let's talk about it
The recent case of Engineer Atul Subhash in Bengaluru is a stark reminder of the unspoken struggles many men face. Men are often expected to bear emotional, financial, and legal burdens silently, leading to immense mental health challenges.

🚨 Did you know?
• Men are 2.5 times more likely to die by su***de than women in India (NCRB 2022).
• Social stigma prevents 40% of men from seeking help for mental health concerns.
• Legal and societal pressures in marriage disputes can amplify emotional distress.

🧠 As a mental health professional, here’s what I believe needs to change:
1. Normalize Vulnerability: Men deserve safe spaces to express their emotions without fear of judgment. Talking is healing.
2. Strengthen Mental Health Support: We need more accessible, male-focused mental health resources.
3. Reform Legal Systems: False allegations or prolonged marital disputes should be addressed fairly to prevent undue psychological strain.

💡 What can you do?
• Check in on your male friends and family. Sometimes, a simple “How are you doing?” can make a world of difference.
• Advocate for mental health awareness in your community.
• Break the stigma. Remind men: Seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Let’s honor those like Atul Subhash by working towards a society that values empathy, equality, and mental well-being for all genders.

“Your relationship with yourself is the most important one. When you are true to yourself, you build genuine connections with others.”

Every relationship depends on the effort we put into it. This effort comes from within us, and the strength of our connection with ourselves determines the strength of our connections with others.

Individuals who are in tune with their physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being tend to form the strongest relationships. Physical well-being fosters determination and motivation, while emotional well-being strengthens belief and faith. Spiritual well-being leads to calmness and patience. Possessing these traits allows us to remain committed when building relationships.

Be honest, truthful, and committed to yourself, you'll find it easier to get along with most people, avoid unnecessary relationship problems, and form strong lasting connections.

Being hopeful means that you see a possibility. When we see something being possible, we make our full efforts to achieve it.

There are times in life when you face hopelessness. You feel as if nothing will ever work out and your dreams might not turn into a reality, but then is somewhere a tiny hope in your heart that makes you not give up. It is this little hope that makes you to continue and not give up. All you need to do is keep this flame of hope burning.

Stay hopeful and never lose hope. Sometimes it may look like an end but keeping hope, you will be able to see another way.

Autism, a diverse spectrum of neurological differences, affects 1 in 54 children. It's characterized by unique strengths like attention to detail and creativity, alongside challenges in social interaction and communication. Early intervention is key, offering therapies like ABA and speech therapy to support development. Understanding and acceptance are crucial for creating an inclusive society where everyone, regardless of neurology, is valued and supported. Let's spread awareness, promote acceptance, and celebrate the richness of neurodiversity together.

Charlie Chopra is an exciting crime thriller series on Sony Liv, that I watched recently. I found it compelling and watched the entire series in two days. (Please do not read this now if you have not watched this series and you are planning to, as there are major spoilers, starting from the next sentence).

The killer is a mental health professional, and she uses hypnosis as a tool to commit the act. I don't want to get into the details of the plot here as it may ruin the suspense further.

Hypnosis as a psychotherapy model is already colored by a lot of myths and misconceptions, and professionals are working day in and day out to clear those through national awareness campaigns and by including hypnosis in the academic curriculums of colleges and training institutes; series like these tend to minimize all these entire efforts.

The story is centered around two fundamental misconceptions about hypnosis:

1. One can be hypnotized to say or do something against one's will.

It raises many complex issues about the notions of free will, personal responsibility for one's actions, boundaries in the therapeutic relationship, the potential for abuse of one's position, and other issues related to professional and personal conduct. In the clinical context, the relationship between clinician and client is necessarily one of mutual responsibility and accountability. In theory, the clinician offers benevolent suggestions that the client can freely accept or reject.
Controlling a person is possible in certain extreme conditions, but those conditions do not reflect hypnosis applied in clinical contexts, where cooperation is emphasized rather than coercion.

2. Once hypnotized, one can no longer resist it.

This refers to the idea that hypnotists control the will of their subjects and that once individuals succumb to their power, they are forever at their mercy. As you know now, nothing is further from the truth since the hypnotic process is an interaction based on mutual power, shared to attain some desirable therapeutic outcome. Even the most responsive clients can refuse to follow the suggestions of a clinician if they so choose.

Sadly, the media is still stuck in the old, unscientific understanding of these models.
Please do not confuse the public.
Hypnosis is one of the most appreciated therapeutic processes in mental health now.
