Mental Health and Marital Challenges:
A Call for Change….,
Let's talk about it
The recent case of Engineer Atul Subhash in Bengaluru is a stark reminder of the unspoken struggles many men face. Men are often expected to bear emotional, financial, and legal burdens silently, leading to immense mental health challenges.
🚨 Did you know?
• Men are 2.5 times more likely to die by su***de than women in India (NCRB 2022).
• Social stigma prevents 40% of men from seeking help for mental health concerns.
• Legal and societal pressures in marriage disputes can amplify emotional distress.
🧠 As a mental health professional, here’s what I believe needs to change:
1. Normalize Vulnerability: Men deserve safe spaces to express their emotions without fear of judgment. Talking is healing.
2. Strengthen Mental Health Support: We need more accessible, male-focused mental health resources.
3. Reform Legal Systems: False allegations or prolonged marital disputes should be addressed fairly to prevent undue psychological strain.
💡 What can you do?
• Check in on your male friends and family. Sometimes, a simple “How are you doing?” can make a world of difference.
• Advocate for mental health awareness in your community.
• Break the stigma. Remind men: Seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness.
Let’s honor those like Atul Subhash by working towards a society that values empathy, equality, and mental well-being for all genders.
