Adenomyosis affects the uterus which causes endometrial cells to grow inside the uterus muscles (specifically the myometrium). This results in painful and heavy menstruation, along with other related sympyoms.
This usually results in heavy and painful periods. It’s diagnosed by Ultrasound features and sometimes MRI and is estimated to affect 1 in 5 people with periods.
