Many parents worry about their baby’s potty habits — but not everything you hear is true! Here are some common myths and the real facts 👇
👉 Myth 1: Daily potty is necessary
Fact: Breastfed babies may pass stool once a day or even once in 5–7 days — totally normal if stool is soft.
👉 Myth 2: Green stool means illness
Fact: Green stool often happens due to foremilk–hindmilk imbalance, iron drops, or mild digestion changes. Not always a sign of sickness.
👉 Myth 3: Hard stool means dehydration every time
Fact: Sometimes starting solids or formula changes can make stools hard — not always dehydration.
👉 Myth 4: Yellow stool always means infection
Fact: Yellow, seedy poo is normal for breastfed babies.
👉 Myth 5: Black stool after a few days of birth is dangerous
Fact: If your baby is on iron supplements, stool can turn black — normal! (Only first 24 hrs meconium is expected.)
👉 Myth 6: Frequent stool = diarrhea
Fact: If the stool is not watery and baby is active & feeding well, frequent stool is normal in newborns.
