Noticed a bump on your eyelid and wondering if it’s a stye or a chalazion? 🤔 While they may look similar, they’re quite different—and knowing which one you’re dealing with is key to proper treatment.
STYE (Hordeolum):
👉 Caused by a bacterial infection
👉 Typically painful and red
👉 Located near the lash line
👉 Often filled with pus, like a pimple
👉 Can cause swelling in the entire eyelid
CHALAZION:
👉 Caused by a blocked oil gland (not infection)
👉 Usually painless or mildly tender
👉 Located farther back on the eyelid
👉 May grow slowly over a few days
👉 Can linger longer than a stye
While both can resolve on their own, warm compresses and proper hygiene help speed recovery. However, if the bump grows, becomes painful, or affects your vision, don’t ignore it—it’s time to see an eye care specialist.
At Eyes on Brickell, we offer expert diagnosis and treatment for all eyelid concerns, including styes and chalazions. Let us help you see—and feel—better.
