These courses are organised by the SGPGI Breast Health Program and Department of Endocrine & Breast Surgery, SGPGIMS, Lucknow. The "SGPGI Breast course 2014" and the "ABSI skills course" was held at SGPGIMS Lucknow on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th February 2014. The first day of the course was broadly dedicated to "basic breast surgery techniques" and will include issues such as - evaluation of breast lump and breast pathology; Ultrasound course; biopsy: percutaneous, operative, image guided, mammotome; mastectomy, axillary dissection, post mastectomy RT, minimum and optimal adjuvant treatment. The second day of the course focused on "contemporary breast cancer management- evaluation, surgery, adjuvant treatment, follow-up", and will include discussion on issues such as breast conservation, oncoplasty, sentinel lymph node biopsy, RT in intact breast, target volume delineation and RT following oncoplastic procedures, contemporary adjuvant treatment- chemotherapy, hormone, targeted therapy; utility of molecular profiling". About 75 eminent faculty including four overseas, and 40 from various Indian institutions /hospitals from various parts of the country, and others from different institutions in Lucknow deliberated in the course. The course was attended by 210 delegates, from various corners of India, and included overseas delegates from UAE, Bangladesh and Nepal. The "Breast Surgery International" had co-sanctioned this course, and sent their faculty- Dr Mikael Hartmann and Dr Omar Youssef to participate. Besides prominent Indian expert breast surgeons, radiation and medical oncologists, eminent overseas faculty who attended the course were Drs Susan Troyan (Harvard), Omar Youssef (NCI Cairo) and Mikael Hartmann (NUHS Singapore) and Mr Sankar Narayanan (UK).
