Dr. Choudhuri is an MBBS Graduate from JIPMER, Pondicherry and completed his MD (Medicine) & DM (Gastroenterology) from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi in 1982 & 1984 respectively. He has been conferred as the Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology (FACG), Fellow of Indian College of Physicians (FICP) and Fellow of Academy of Medical Sciences (FAMS). With a rich experience of over 30 years to his credit, Dr. Gourdas Choudhuri is a leading gastroenterologist, medical educator, researcher, columnist and philanthropist. He served as a Faculty for 25 years at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow. During his tenure as Professor & Head for 10 years, the department was ranked as amongst the top 5 in the country. His last assignment was as Vice Chairman � Institute of Digestive & Hepatobiliary Sciences at Medanta, The Medicity, Gurgaon. He has made seminal contributions in creating and spreading awareness on health issues in the country, especially among school and college students through �Hope Initiative�. He is a revered teacher and has several scientific publications, orations and awards to his credit. He has pioneered several developments in Gastroenterology in the country. He was the first person to start Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) and Extra Corporeal Shockwave Biliary Lithotripsy (ESWL) in India in 1990 and 1994 respectively. Dr Choudhuri played a leadership role in developing liver and digestive health in the country as the honorary secretary and President of the Indian Society of Gastroenterology. He has been the President of the Indian Society of Gastroenterology and has also served as Council member of International bodies like World Gastroenterology Organization (WGO), Asia Pacific Association of Gastroenterology (APAGE) and Coalition for Eradication of Viral Hepatitis from Asia Pacific (CEVHAP). He has also been a Fellow of the World Health Organization (WHO) for Health Promotion.
