Grateful to see this complex uro-oncology surgery reflected in today’s media coverage.
Urological cancers often remain silent in the early stages. Because of this, many patients are diagnosed when the disease is already advanced. Persistent blood in urine, unexplained urinary symptoms, or any recent change in urinary habits — especially in elderly individuals — should never be ignored. Early evaluation can significantly influence outcomes.
In this case at Chandan Hospital, a 79-year-old gentleman with synchronous advanced malignancies of the ureter and urinary bladder underwent a combined robotic Radical Nephroureterectomy with Radical Cystoprostatectomy and Bilateral extended Pelvic Lymph Node Dissection in a single sitting, with en bloc specimen removal. Despite the magnitude of surgery and associated comorbidities, his recovery was smooth and he was discharged in stable condition on postoperative day 5.
Complex uro-oncology demands careful selection, multidisciplinary planning, and disciplined surgical ex*****on.

Blood in urine (hematuria) should never be ignored—especially if it’s painless.
One of the common warning signs of bladder cancer is painless, intermittent hematuria: it may appear once, disappear, and return later.

✅ If you notice red/pink urine or even blood only on urine test, get evaluated early—usually with urine analysis, ultrasound/CT urogram (as appropriate), and cystoscopy.
⚠️ Don’t self-treat as “UTI” without proper assessment, particularly in smokers, people >40 years, or anyone with recurrent episodes.

Early evaluation can make a major difference because bladder cancer, when detected early, is often highly treatable.

A young, sexually active man came to us for a second opinion after being diagnosed with carcinoma in situ of the p***s.
He could not tolerate the standard topical treatment (5-FU) and was advised partial removal of the p***s (g***sectomy) elsewhere, which was understandably distressing for him.

After detailed evaluation and counselling, and keeping his age and quality of life in mind, we opted for an organ-preserving surgery called g***s resurfacing.
The final biopsy confirmed complete disease clearance with no invasion, meaning a more radical surgery was avoided.

👉 Key message:
Pe**le cancer is not always treated with removal surgery.
In carefully selected cases, advanced organ-preserving procedures can offer safe cancer control while maintaining appearance and sexual function.

Early diagnosis, correct staging, and specialist opinion can make a life-changing difference.
If something doesn’t feel right, don’t hesitate to seek a second opinion.

Kidney Cancer Awareness | Robotic Partial Nephrectomy (Kidney-Sparing Surgery)

Kidney cancer is often silent—many people don’t feel symptoms early. That’s why timely scans and the right treatment plan matter.

When detected early (and if suitable), Robotic Partial Nephrectomy can help remove the tumour while preserving healthy kidney tissue—a “kidney-sparing” approach aimed at good cancer control and long-term kidney function.

✅ Small incisions
✅ Precise tumour removal
✅ Focus on faster recovery and quality of life

If you’ve been diagnosed with a kidney mass, discuss all options with your urologic cancer specialist—because every tumour and every kidney is different.

12/01/2026

Robotic partial nephrectomy represents a significant advance in modern kidney cancer surgery, allowing precise removal of the tumour while preserving healthy kidney tissue, without compromising oncological outcomes. With enhanced 3-D visualisation, superior instrument control, and meticulous reconstruction, the robotic approach enables nephron-sparing surgery in appropriately selected patients, often resulting in reduced blood loss, less postoperative pain, shorter hospital stay, and faster functional recovery. This approach is now considered the standard of care for many small and moderate-sized renal tumours.

If you or someone in your family has been diagnosed with a kidney tumour, seeking a specialist second opinion is essential to evaluate the feasibility of a kidney-preserving robotic approach. Dr. Anshuman Singh is a fellowship-trained Urologist with an exclusive clinical focus on the management of urological cancers, including kidney, prostate, and bladder cancers. He has advanced expertise in robotic surgery for urological cancers and is committed to delivering evidence-based, organ-preserving cancer care. Currently serving as Vice-Chairperson – Uro-Oncology & Robotic Surgery at Chandan Cancer Institute, Lucknow, his practice emphasizes oncological safety, functional preservation, and individualized patient-centric decision-making through a multidisciplinary framework.

Early evaluation and the right surgical approach can make a meaningful difference in long-term outcomes.

02/01/2026

As we begin the year, it is worth taking a moment to reflect on the role of preventive care, timely evaluation, and informed medical guidance in long-term health.

Health progress is not always straightforward. Regular check-ups, attention to persistent symptoms, and appropriate follow-up help support better outcomes over time.

Wishing you a healthy and mindful year ahead!!

Robotic surgery has become an important advancement in the treatment of urological cancers, offering gentler and more precise procedures. In prostate cancer, it helps improve continence and sexual function outcomes by allowing finer nerve-sparing. For kidney tumours, it allows removal of the tumour while preserving more healthy kidney, which is vital for long-term kidney health. In bladder cancer, robotic surgery offers better visual control, smaller cuts and a smoother recovery during complex procedures like cystectomy.
If you or your loved one has been diagnosed with a urological cancer, understanding all available treatment options is essential. Early consultation with a specialist ensures you choose the approach that offers the best long-term outcomes and quality of life.

Recently we undertook a focused round-table meeting with Physicians and Surgeons in Azamgarh aimed at empowering early cancer recognition, prompt referral practices and improving overall awareness in Urologic Oncology.
The discussion centered on practical steps to identify early warning signs, streamline referral pathways and ensure that patients receive specialized evaluation without delay — a key determinant of long-term outcomes.
Such collaborative engagements play a vital role in expanding access to quality cancer care across the region.
Important points for the general population include:
• Early diagnosis often makes "organ-preserving cancer treatments" possible, especially for kidney, bladder, testicular and prostate cancers.
• Timely specialist consultation can open the door to minimally invasive and robotic surgeries, which offer faster recovery and fewer long-term complications.
• Most importantly, detecting cancer at an early stage provides the best chance of complete cure.
• Persistent urinary symptoms, unexplained bleeding, lumps, weight loss or pain should always prompt a prompt evaluation by a specialist.
Appreciate the support of Chandan Hospital in driving these outreach initiatives and promoting evidence-based cancer awareness.

Many men begin to notice urinary changes—slower flow, hesitancy, urgency, or waking up at night—and quickly label them as “normal age-related prostate issues.” While ageing can contribute, these symptoms are not something to dismiss without evaluation. Early prostate cancer often presents with exactly the same complaints and usually without pain, which is why relying on assumptions can delay timely diagnosis.
Getting a simple check-up, PSA test, or ultrasound does not mean something is seriously wrong—it only ensures clarity. Most men who get evaluated discover benign causes, but for the few in whom early prostate cancer is detected, the benefit is life-changing. When identified early, prostate cancer is easier to treat, requires less aggressive intervention, and offers far better long-term quality of life.
Awareness is not fear—it is protection. Listening to your symptoms early is one of the simplest ways to safeguard your health.
