THE GYM LESSON
I was working out on the cross trainer when an extremely fit young gentleman walked in the gym and got on the nearby treadmill and started running at speed of 11 km per hour .I mentally admired his fitness and wished I was as fit as he was.
Meanwhile a slightly obese acquaintance of mine who had finished his workout walked over to me and said “ I wish I was as fit as you “

Take home - Be happy with what you have ,many others are dying to be in your shoes .In life ,one would always have someone doing better than you and at the same time many more vying to be as good as you .

CHOLESTEROL BASICS
🔸Whenever your doctor checks your cholesterol level by getting the Lipid Profile test , he checks for the bad and the good cholesterol.
🔸LDL (Low Density Lipoprotein)is the bad cholesterol in the body.If it is higher than recommended it can cause heart problems.Triglycerides and VLDL are the other fats measured in Lipid Profile test and like LDL they are bad for heart if they are above the recommended levels .

🔸HDL (High Density Lipoprotein)is the good cholesterol in the body .HDL provides protection from heart diseases and strokes (paralysis).The higher it is ,the better it is for one’s health.

THE FACEBOOK FRIEND
My wife was pouring over the news of demise of a local business man Mr Sharma (Name Changed) in suspicious circumstances .I replied in negative when she asked if I knew him .
Later in the day ,I got a notification from Facebook stating that”You have a friend anniversary with Mr Sharma today and you have been friends with Mr Sharma for last 7 years “.
I realised at that time the hollowness of Social media friends.I had probably accepted a friend request from Mr Sharma in a half awake state just before retiring to bed .I realised that I had been wishing him mechanically on his birthday without fail on Facebook’s prompt but did not recognise him when it was most required.
This is a classic example of modern day relationships which are based on virtual interactions,money power ,status in society and social media presence thus lacking intimacy and close bonding unlike relationships of yesteryear’s .

LET’S NOT PLAY DOCTOR,DOCTOR
Yesterday a middle aged Gentleman walked in my clinic with complaints of chest pain of 4 days duration.
Three days back he had gone on his own to a nearby lab and had got a computerised ECG which was reported normal by the software of the machine.
This gentleman was reassured seeing the normal report and further googled his symptoms and made a self diagnosis of Gas .
However when his symptoms persisted for 4 days ,he decided to stop playing Doctor and decided take to take a medical opinion.
I examined him and found his pulse was very fast and BP very low .I repeated his Ecg and got some heart tests done and my suspicions of him having suffered a heart attack was confirmed.His heart functioning had been affected due to late diagnosis and was half of what it should have been.
I felt bad ,sad and at the same time angry at the behaviour of this Gentleman.Had he taken proper medical advice at appropriate time ,this irreversible damage to heart could have been avoided.
This incident is not rare ,I see such instances everyday.Remember tests alone are not substitute for good medical history and examination.Many times a good doctor will pick up what the tests have missed.

🔸Never interpret your test results yourself.
🔸Normal tests in a patient with symptoms require further investigations .Doctors are trained for this ,Google may not be a good alternative for professional advice.
🔸Tests can never replace the clinical expertise of a doctor

WANT TO PRACTICE YOGA ?? SOME PRECAUTIONS ONE MUST TAKE
🔵Today is International Yoga day .Yoga is the latest fad all over the world.People of all ages take pride in telling others they practice yoga for good health.
🔵However there are few things one should remember before one does the yogic asanas.
▪️ONE SHOULD NOT PRACTICE YOGA WITHOUT TALKING TO YOUR DOCTOR AND TRAINED YOGA INSTRUCTOR IF YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING HEALTH PROBLEMS-
🔹Disc problem
🔹History or risk of blood clotting
🔹Pregnant ladies should do only the asanas recommended by experts .
🔹Patients who can’t maintain their balance
🔹Uncontrolled BP
🔹Severe bone weakness (osteoporosis)
🔹Increase in eye pressure (Glaucoma)
🔹Hernias
You may have to avoid certain asanas if you have any of above illnesses .
▪️Learn yoga from a trained instructor only ,self learning from a book or net may lead to health problems.
▪️Don’t try the difficult poses of yoga until you are an expert.
▪️Modify yoga postures according to your capabilities after discussing with your instructor.
▪️Learn the proper breathing techniques while performing the yoga asanas .
▪️Yoga may or may not take care of your illnesses so don’t stop any of your medicines e.g. BP or Diabetes medicines without discussing with your doctor .

THE SUPREME POWER
Many years back an elderly businessman of Ludhiana visited me with his wife’s reports.His wife had been discharged for home care from a big hospital of Ludhiana with diagnosis of untreatable cancer and few days survival.
I went thru the reports and also felt the chances of patient’s recovery were remote and concurred with the hospital’s consultant’s advice of love and care at home .
A few months later the elderly gentleman came back and announced “My wife has been semiconscious now for eight months and we are taking good care but it hurts us to see her suffering and we can’t take it anymore.Please give her some medicine to end her misery “
I politely told him that I could not do what he had asked for but this request was repeated multiple times over next few months whenever he came for his check up .
Few weeks back I learnt that the elderly gentleman who had wanted Euthanasia for his wife had died due to a brain attack and the lady he was worried about was still alive and improving.
Take home -
🔸 Life is very uncertain,Live for today for one does not know what future holds for us .
🔸There is probably a higher power taking care of us and it can overrule all prognosis the present medical knowledge predicts .

*OPERATION SINDOOR*:
A *MEDICAL* LESSON
Operation Sindoor has been a phenomenal success because Indian Armed Forces first evaluated the situation, used intelligence resources to pinpoint specific terrorist targets and then picked up the best suited missile to demolish the terrorist hideouts.
This aim was achieved credibly without injuring innocent civilians.
Whereas, Pakistan used their weaponry, especially drones and heavy artillery haphazardly, hoping to achieve potential gains. They managed to cause only innocent civilian casualties without inflicting damage to our military capability, besides wasting their resources.
Another reason why their attacks failed was the strong defence mechanism of Indian Armed Forces.
*Similarly in case of a infection in the body*, if one does not evaluate the cause of infection but fires antibiotics without pinpointing the infection or picking the best drug for it, one does not achieve cure but one only manages to increase the cost of treatment besides causing damage to other body organs .
Our TakeHome Message-
🔸Never start antibiotics on your own.
🔸Let your doctor evaluate you for the infection so that he can deliver targeted specific therapy for your illness.
🔸Make your defences “The Immune System“ strong and stay safe.

BOHNI UNDERSTOOD
Bohni is a social and commercial custom of India based on the belief that the first monetary business transaction of the day determines the money earned during rest of the day .Most people would like to have a good first financial transaction so that rest of the day is a financial success.
Many years back I was sitting in my Dad’s opd and the first patient he saw ,he did not charge his consultation as he was a social acquaintance.
This Social Acquaintance requested my Dad without much success to take his consultation fees saying “ Doctor Sahib ,Bohni ka time hai “
After the patient had left , my Father explained his understanding of Bohni .He said “According to me Bohni does not mean a financial earning only,one can also earn Bohni of goodwill and gratitude and if one earns that through out the day ,life becomes more meaningful, contented and richer ,That perhaps is more important than the monetary gains earned through the day “
