Mission AMRIT (Acute Myocardial Reperfusion in Time)—the flagship programme of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Punjab in collaboration with DMC&H, Ludhiana entered a new phase on 18 December 2025 with the inclusion of Employees’ State Insurance Scheme (ESIS) hospitals in the structured STEMI care network.
This milestone was marked by a full-day training workshop conducted at the Hero DMC Heart Institute, Ludhiana. The programme featured comprehensive academic sessions, interactive emergency case discussions, and live demonstrations on the use of ECG machines and defibrillators. The workshop equipped over 50 healthcare professionals from the ESI health system of Punjab with critical knowledge and practical skills, united by the shared objective of saving lives through timely myocardial reperfusion.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Shri Himanshu Jain, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana; Shri Bipin Gupta, Secretary, DMC&H Managing Society; Shri Mukesh Kumar Verma, Treasurer, DMC&H Managing Society; Dr. Bishav Mohan, Chief Convener, Mission AMRIT Punjab; Dr. G. S. Wander, Principal, DMC&H, along with senior government officials.
Shri Himanshu Jain, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana, appreciated the Mission AMRIT’s role in improving emergency cardiac care outcomes.
Shri Bipin Gupta, Secretary, DMC&H Managing Society, reiterated DMC&H’s vision of “Health for All”, aligning it closely with the objectives and sustained success of Mission AMRIT.
Shri Mukesh Kumar Verma, Treasurer, DMC&H Managing Society, also shared valuable insights in support of the initiative.
Dr G S wander, highlighted the critical importance of Mission AMRIT in strengthening Punjab’s emergency cardiac care framework.
Dr. Bishav Mohan, Chief Convener, Mission AMRIT Punjab, followed with an overview of the programme’s evolution—from a pilot initiative to a standardized statewide model for emergency STEMI (ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction) care. He also shared impactful success stories from the border districts of Tarn Taran and Hoshiarpur, demonstrating the programme’s real-world benefits.
Addressing the gathering from an administrative perspective, Dr. Hitinder Kaur Kler, Director, Health and Family Welfare, Government of Punjab, outlined Mission AMRIT’s growth and its successful implementation across 75 public hospitals in the state. She further shared the roadmap for expanding and strengthening the programme’s reach across Punjab.
Dr. Anil Goyal, Director of Health Services, ESI, assured complete support from the ESI health system and reaffirmed its commitment to seamless integration of Mission AMRIT across
ESIS hospitals in Punjab. These views were echoed by Dr. Indresh Pawar, Dean, ESIC Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana.
The session concluded with the sharing of real-world experiences and implementation challenges by STEMI champions from Ludhiana district, including Dr. Amanpreet Kaur, District Family Welfare Officer, Ludhiana, and Dr. Shiney Agarwal, Senior Medical Officer, SDH Khanna. Their insights inspired participants and reinforced a collective commitment to strengthening timely, evidence-based STEMI care delivery across Punjab.
