Interesting Case:
Today, 15 year old 10th standard student presented with severe epigastric pain during exam, lipase was elevated 1000.. on usg acute pancreatitis was seen. No cholelithiasis or cholecystitis. CBD was normal. Spleen was also normal. Only additional finding was borderline increased renal medullary echopattern, giving clue for sickle disease.. So I advised concerned physician to do sickling test , and it was positive. So it is diagnosed as a case of sickle cell induced pancreatitis.
Acute pancreatitis secondary to sickle disease is very rare condition. .only 6 cases reports are published so far.
