On 1 December WHO celebrates World AIDS Day 2022, under the theme “Equalize”
"Achieving Equity to End HIV"
We can End social stigma on AIDS by knowing actually what it is, AIDS stands for Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome.
Cause :
HIV - Human immunodeficiency virus
We have rhino virus which produce common cold, we have corona virus which had cough and breathing difficulty, same we have HIV, which enters our human body and destroys the white blood cell (immune cells/military of our body), this doesn't happen overnight, happens over years and years slowly.
When military of our body gets damaged one by one, there will be invasion of microorganisms(நுண் உயிர்கள்), they cause diseases.
HIV will not cause any disease p***e, it just destroys the protective barrier of our body. So, HIV affected patients are prone for all infections caused by bacteria, virus and fungus.
TRANSMISSION-
From HIV affected persons, through sexual in*******se, blood and blood products, using unsterile instruments or needle in tatooing, piercing, medical purposes, IV injection drug addicts sharing same needle for everyone, through pregnancy from mother to child.
Can we prevent,
Yes
Usage of condoms , Not sharing needles, Use sterile instruments and needles.
Pregnant females who are HIV positive, can be treated with medicines, by which they can prevent HIV in their babies
We have medicines (Post exposure prophylaxis) for accidental needle stick injury or accidental exposure to infected blood products.
Is AIDS treatable?
YES ,AIDS is treatable, We have ART (Anti Retroviral Therapy) taht makes the affected persons lead a normal life.
Under our ministry of health and family welfare, we have NACP(National AIDS Control Programme) and many NGO provides all kinds of supports to people living with the disease.
'AIDS IS NOT A DISEASE TO BE STIGMATISED, ITS JUST LIKEANY OTHER VIRAL DISEASE WHICH IS TREATABLE AND AFFECTED PEOPLE CAN LEAD A NORMAL AND BETTER LIFE'
