Like every year since the last 11 years Whistling Woods celebrated IDY with a gusto and enthusiasm.
The difference this time was the guest of honour, none other than my mentor and guru since 1985, Hansa Ma, of the world's Oldest organised training centre of Yoga since 106 years.
This coming together of 2 great institutions with whom I have been closely associated with, filled my heart with joy unsurpassed..
Yoga Institute being my Gnyan Bhoomi, my field of gaining knowledge &
Whistling Woods being my Karma Bhoomi, my field for applying and sharing the rich knowledge with young fertile minds and wannabe actors.
Taking this opportunity to pay my respect and gratitude to both Hansa Ma (Hansama Jayadeva Yogendra)and SG Sir (Sir Ghai).
And not to mention endearing presence of Jackie Shroff whose short and humorous but exact yogic explanation as a way of life touches the heart.

Philosophy is meant to make life easier through knowledge. The YOGA philosophy of Maharshi Patanjali centers around the understanding of our own mind which can in the words of the celebrated poet Milton - create a hell out of heaven or a heaven out of hell.
Every philosophy evolves on the basis of certain foundations that it lays out as being REAL. The Philosophy of Yoga is based upon the foundation of two existing realities which are 1. PRAKRITI or Matter & 2. PURUSHA or Spirit or Consciousness.

PRAKRITI is that side of our nature that is constantly changing and evolving ALL the time. It is the opposite of steadiness and stability.

Our sense organs are designed to be outwardly focused and they are constantly sending data and info received from the environment to our mind during our waking hours.

The Universe also falls in the realm of Prakriti and as we can see it changes all the time, our body and mind also are also changeful. Mind, the subtlest aspect of nature, too is extremely unsteady as we know from our personal experience.

The ultimate goal of each and every technique of Yoga is to steady the mind and the body and Yoga is a conscious effort in that direction.

Can we imagine a life without DOING anything which encompasses all our sensory experiences to engage with. Our senses are constantly in touch with the world around us and giving us all the info, all the data by default, unasked. It is this engagement with Prakriti , the world of matter, which provides us the reason to be . and it serves us with pleasurable as well as painful experiences repeatedly.

This is that 1 side of human life and human nature , which according to Maharishi Patanjali is responsible for painful experiences in the long run, if we do not understand it and tame it.

Yoga is the most under-represented and misinterpreted word in modern day and age. To truly understand what Yoga stands for one has to go to the source i.e. The Patanjali Yoga Sutras written 2,500 years ago wherein lies the essence and its true spirit.

Maharishi Patanjali was the pioneer to present Yoga in a structured and logical manner for anyone who desires to pursue spirituality.

Patanjali's Yoga sutra consist of 195 aphorisms of which only 3 sutras have a direct reference to asanas.

To practice spirituality or experience Yoga in its truest sense, one has to subscribe to Maharishi Patanjali's explanation of Yoga.🧘🧘‍♂️

We narrow the scope of Yoga if we look at it from the lens of Asanas and Pranayama only.
One can widen its reach if practised in its true form and spirit. A head stand isn't necessary to prove that one knows Yoga.
A true practitioner will and should experience all the 5 points mentioned.
