I am honored and delighted to receive the Shri Kengal Hanumanthaih Sadbhavana National Award today at Ravindra Kalakshetra for my 20 years of dedicated service in the field of Yoga and social service. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Kannada and Culture Department and Mrs. Laksh*tha Gangavathi for recognizing my contributions. This award serves as a great motivation for me to continue my efforts in promoting health, healing, and well-being through Yogasanas and Pranayama, striving for a healthier society, state, and nation.
It is an even greater privilege to receive an award named after Shri Kengal Hanumanthaiah, the visionary former Chief Minister of Karnataka and the mastermind behind the iconic Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru.
At the time of India’s independence, only Madras, Bombay, Kolkata, and Delhi had the necessary infrastructure, including legislative assembly buildings, while Karnataka had to build everything from scratch. The story of Vidhana Soudha’s architecture dates back to when a Russian cultural delegation visited Bengaluru. Inspired and challenged by their remarks, Kengal Hanumanthaiah took it upon himself to create a grand monument that would embody Karnataka’s rich architectural heritage. His vision resulted in a timeless masterpiece.
The architecture of Vidhana Soudha draws inspiration from Brihadeeswara Temple in Thanjavur and Karnataka’s Somnathpura Temples. It showcases the Mysuru Neo-Dravidian style, blending elements from classical European and Indo-Saracenic designs. The structure also incorporates architectural influences from the medieval Chalukya, Hoysala, and Vijayanagara dynasties, making it a true symbol of Karnataka’s grandeur and cultural legacy.
