A New Era of Precision Cancer Care at M.I.O! 🏥✨

We are thrilled to share some monumental news for healthcare in our region: the world-class TrueBeam radiotherapy system is now installed and operational at the Mangalore Institute of Oncology!

A cancer diagnosis is daunting, but having the right technology makes a world of difference. The TrueBeam system allows our expert radiation oncologists to deliver highly precise treatments—targeting complex tumors while safely avoiding healthy tissue. This means less time in the hospital, fewer side effects, and a faster road to recovery for our patients.

For the people of Mangaluru, Udupi, Shivamogga, and beyond, this means you don't have to travel to metropolitan cities to receive state-of-the-art cancer treatment. World-class care is right here at home.

From Awareness to Action: Dr. Suresh Rao on the Future of Cancer Care in Coastal Karnataka 🤝🏥

Why did Mangalore Institute of Oncology (M.I.O) and Sanjeevini Cancer Seva Trust undertake a massive 10,000-household survey? As Dr. D Suresh Rao explains in his powerful address, the initiative was born out of a deeply concerning observation: nearly 80% of cancer patients in India seek help only in advanced stages. Understanding the social and psychological reasons behind this delayed diagnosis was absolutely essential.
What did we find? Dr. Rao highlights that while general cancer awareness is relatively good in our educated district, this awareness is clearly not sufficient to change health behavior. Fear and anxiety are causing individuals to delay visiting a doctor despite having symptoms.
Our Promise for the Future: We are shifting our approach. Our future roadmap focuses not only on awareness but heavily on reducing fear, correcting misconceptions, and establishing grassroots screening programs.Watch Dr. Suresh Rao outline the vision for a healthier, fear-free community.

Bridging the Gap in Rural Healthcare: Free Transport for Cancer Patients in Thirthahalli! 🤝🏥

At Mangalore Institute of Oncology (M.I.O), we believe that geography should never dictate your access to world-class healthcare. That is why we were incredibly honored to have Former Deputy Chief Minister Shri K.S. Eshwarappa inaugurate our new Free Vehicle Facility at the M.I.O Araga, Thirthahalli branch.

During his visit to review our advanced oncology infrastructure, Shri Eshwarappa praised the initiative, noting that "a hospital of this caliber is a necessity for cancer patients in rural areas".

Why is this so important? Dr. Suresh Rao (Director, M.I.O) highlighted a concerning trend: cancer cases are notably increasing in rural communities, yet many patients delay treatment due to travel distances and fear, ultimately reaching harder-to-treat Stage 4.

This new free transport service from Thirthahalli to our hospital ensures that commuting hurdles are eliminated, empowering our Malenadu community to seek early, highly curable interventions.

🎥 Watch the highlights of the flag-off ceremony below! Please SHARE this video to spread the word to families in Shivamogga and Malenadu who might need this vital support.

📍 To avail the free transport: Simply contact the M.I.O Araga hospital helpdesk with prior information.

Bridging the Gap: From Knowing to Acting in Dakshina Kannada 🤝💙

Recently, the Mangalore Institute of Oncology (M.I.O) and Sanjeevini Cancer Seva Trust completed a monumental task: surveying 10,000+ households in our district about cancer awareness. What did we learn from listening to you?
We learned that our community is highly educated on the risks with over 90% recognizing to***co as a leading cause of cancer. However, a critical "action gap" remains. Only 12.6% of our residents have actively participated in cancer screenings. Fear of the unknown and worries about treatment costs are the biggest barriers preventing people from getting checked. We hear you, and we are stepping up. This video highlights our blueprint for the future: bringing mobile screening directly to rural areas, offering subsidized treatment, and expanding our free Cancer Information Centres (Mahiti Kendras). Cancer is not a death sentence, especially when caught early. Let’s change the narrative together.
