What if you are a 92 year old ??? You still deserve to see well !!
Very rarely Ophthalmic Surgeons get to serve a 'super' senior citizen. Majority of the times, the relatives hold back the elderly in their family due to their age and accept their fate due to associated co-morbidities or the elderly themselves are not motivated enough to undergo the cataract surgery procedure.
We still remember the day when the patient had come to our Clinic with both arms held by her daughter in law and her granddaughter and she was unable to see anything around her. With one eye lost to Optic Atrophy and the retina of the Cataractous eye not clearly visible due to the dense Cataract, it was a chance the relatives as well as the surgeon had to take !
It was only after a leap of faith all of us took, today this 92 year old ' Young lady ' walked into the clinic without assistance and was able to recognize her youngest daughter in law and all her other loved ones around her ! It was a very touching moment.
A special mention to her grandson who went all out to serve his grandmom so that she sees every one around and enjoys the joy of vision ! We rarely meet such people now a days who care so deeply for the elderly !!
Lastly felt really grateful to the almighty for giving us the opportunity to serve and make people smile and enjoy the beauty of a newly gained sight !!!
