One is harmless. The other may signal a TMJ disorder.

Many people think TMJ clicking is the same as cracking their knuckles — but the science is completely different.

🔹 Knuckle cracking happens when pressure drops inside the joint and a gas bubble collapses → harmless sound.
🔹 TMJ clicking happens when the disc slips and snaps back into place → may indicate TMJ dysfunction.
