*Back Extension Exercises: A Boon for the Senior Urologist – My Story*
*Dear friends,*
As a senior urologist with over two decades of experience in surgery, I have always believed in the importance of fitness—both physical and mental. For the past 25 years, I diligently practiced yoga every morning and kept my weekends booked for a good game of golf. It was my way of staying active, centered, and sane amidst the rigors of medical practice.
But life, as we all know, throws its curveballs.
Over the last few years, I began experiencing nagging back pain and occasional severe spasms—especially after long hours in the operating theatre. Initially, I brushed it off as fatigue or a transient muscle pull. But as it grew more frequent and more stubborn, I decided to investigate further.
An MRI revealed what many of us in our late 50s or 60s might be familiar with—minor disc prolapse and some age-related degenerative changes. Nothing alarming, but enough to put a dent in my daily comfort. I gave up playing golf, scaled back on some exercises, and hoped rest would do the trick.
*It didn’t.*
Despite all precautions and treatments, the stiffness and discomfort persisted. I felt restricted and, frankly, a bit defeated. That was until I stumbled upon a simple yet powerful solution—*Back Extension Exercises*.
Yes, something as basic as a 2-minute exercise changed everything for me.
I began doing *25 reps, 3 sets daily—a commitment of just a few minutes. And within weeks, my backache vanished. The spasms stopped. The stiffness melted away. It felt like I had been given a new spine! Today, not only am I back to playing golf, but I’m also confidently lifting weights and doing full workouts at the gym—pain-free*.
I’m sharing this because I know many of my senior colleagues in urology suffer silently from similar issues. Long surgeries, prolonged standing, bending over surgical tables—it all takes a toll on our backs. And many of us assume that pain is the price we pay for the profession we love.
But it doesn’t have to be.
*These back extension exercises are a boon—simple, effective, and time-efficient.* They target the lumbar spine, strengthen the supporting muscles, and improve flexibility, posture, and endurance.
So dear friends, if you’ve been battling backache or feel restricted by age-related spinal discomfort, *give this a try*. Just a few minutes a day can bring back the freedom you thought you had lost.
Stay fit, stay pain-free, and keep enjoying both life and surgery!
Warm regards,
*Dr. Subhash Yadav*
