Chana Dal Fara
High in protein and steam-cooked, this is a popular snack from North India and also known by many names. Whatever name may be; these are surely healthy and nutritious.
Ingredients:
1. 1 cup Bengal Gram Split (Chana Dal soaked in water 4-5 hours)
2. 1 chopped small Ginger K**b
3. Chopped Green Chillies (as per taste)
4. 2-3 chopped Garlic Cloves
5. Handful of Coriander Leaves
6. 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
7. 1 tsp Coriander Seeds Powder (Dhaniya Powder)
8. Pinch of Asafoetida Powder (Hing)
9. 1 tsp Cumin Seeds (Jeera)
10. Salt as per taste
11. 1 cup Water
12. 1 cup Rice Flour
13. Curry leaves
For Tadka: Oil, Mustard Seeds, curry leaves, Cumin Seeds & Asafoetida Powder Coriander for garnish
Method:
Take 1 cup soaked Chana Dal in a mixie
Add 1 chopped small Ginger K**b
Add chopped Green Chillies (as per taste) Add 2-3 chopped Garlic Cloves
Add handful of Coriander Leaves
Add 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
Add 1 tsp Coriander Seeds Powder (Dhaniya Powder)
Add a pinch of Asafoetida Powder (Hing)
Add 1 tsp Cumin Seeds (Jeera)
Add Salt as per taste
Turn to a coarse dry mixture
Transfer to a mixing bowl
Further heat 1 cup Water in a pan
Add a pinch of Salt
Let it boil and then add 1 cup Rice Flour, Combine well and turn off the heat, Cover with a lid for 15 mins.
Add a little Oil and knead a soft dough
Further roll out few balls from the dough prepared
Apply some oil and roll it thin with the help of rolling pin (Make a small small Puri size roti)
Add stuffing in the middle
Wrap the roti half by covering the stuffing
(Make more faras with the same procedure)
Grease steamer stand with olive oil
Add all of them one by one
Cover the lid and steam for 15 min on high heat
Cut them into halves
Heat Oil in a pan for tadka
Add Rai, Jeera, Hing and curry leaves
Toss cut fara in this tadka
Take them on a serving plate and garnish with Coriander
