Although kidney disease is more likely to be found in older people, it can occur in people of all ages. It is also often the case that the patient has developed kidney problems through no fault of their own; even people who take good care of themselves can be affected. Regardless of the patient’s age, kidney disease will need to be treated. If treatment is not found, then the patient can experience unwelcome symptoms. The more severe cases can also pose a threat to the patient’s life.
There are numerous reasons why kidneys begin to lose the ability to filter our blood. Some people will be born with defects that hinder the kidneys' ability to function and people can be born with other medical conditions that can cause them harm. Other conditions like a high blood pressure can also contribute, and our lifestyle can also be a factor. Regardless of the cause, many people need treatment to maintain their health, and even to save their lives.
Depending on the extent of damage caused to kidneys, there needs to be a kidney transplant or dialysis treatment. The kidney transplant involves surgically placing a healthy kidney from a donor into human body while dialysis is an artificial way of performing some of the work that a healthy kidney would perform thus helping people lead a normal life. The two types of dialysis treatments are Peritoneal dialysis and Hemodialysis
In Peritoneal dialysis treatment, a thin tube (catheter) is used to inject a dialysis solution into the abdominal cavity. This solution will then absorb waste products and toxins and after a set period, the solution drains the waste from the patient’s body. This treatment can be done at home however the patient will need to have the ability to do it on their own or will need assistance from a caregiver.
In Hemodialysis treatment, the patient’s blood flows out of their body through a dialysis machine which contains a special filter called a dialyzer or an artificial kidney. The solution purifies the patient’s blood and once filtered it is pumped back into the patient’s body. Most patients have 3 treatments per week, each lasting three to five hours. These treatments are usually done in hospitals as an out-patient.
Of course, this requires specialized medical equipment, personnel, and facilities a lot of which does not come at a low price. Funds are required to help develop the facilities further so they can help more people that need kidney treatment. This is where we can help.

I have the pleasure of working with Mount Rosary Hospital, Alangar, Moodbidri. Experiencing first-hand needs of our healthcare to the patients, I am raising funds for covering the cost of dialysis treatment. Each dialysis session costs Rs 1200.00. I Request the good hearted kind donors to donate for the noble cause.
