Here are some questions and their answers. We really hope that these queries will be helpful for all the people out there.
Q.1. What is CORONA or COVID-19 ?
Dr.Saurav Kumar Sarmah :-
Corona refers to the corona virus which is named as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) announced “severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)” as the name of the new virus on 11 February 2020.And the disease cause by (SARS-CoV-2) is coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
WHO announced “COVID-19” as the name of this new disease on 11 February 2020.
Q.2. How does people get infected with corona ?
Dr.Saurav Kumar Sarmah :-
Contact and droplet transmission-
Transmission of SARS-CoV-2 can occur through direct, indirect, or close contact with infected people through infected secretions such as saliva and respiratory secretions or their respiratory droplets, which are expelled when an infected person coughs, sneezes, talks or sings.
Airborne transmission-
Airborne transmission is defined as the spread of an infectious agent caused by the dissemination of aerosols that remain infectious when suspended in air over long distances and time. Airborne transmission of SARS-CoV-2 can occur during medical procedures that generate aerosols (“aerosol generating procedures”) like intubation.
Fomite transmission-
Respiratory secretions or droplets expelled by infected individuals can contaminate surfaces and objects, creating fomites (contaminated surfaces). Viable SARS-CoV-2 virus and/or RNA detected by RT-PCR can be found on those surfaces for periods ranging from hours to days, depending on the ambient environment (including temperature and humidity) and so transmission may also occur indirectly through touching surfaces in the immediate environment or objects contaminated with virus from an infected person (e.g. stethoscope or thermometer), followed by touching the mouth, nose, or eyes.
SARS-CoV-2 infected persons can infect others primarily through droplets and close contact.
Q.3.Are there symptoms that can appear ?
Dr.Saurav Kumar Sarmah :-
The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are Fever
Dry cough
Fatigue
Other symptoms that are less common and may affect some patients include:
Loss of taste or smell,
Nasal congestion,
Conjunctivitis (also known as red eyes)
Sore throat,

Muscle or joint pain,
Different types of skin rash,
Nausea or vomiting,
Diarrhea,
Chills or dizziness.
Symptoms of severe COVID‐19 include:

High temperature (above 38 °C).
Other less common symptoms are:
Irritability,
Confusion,
Reduced consciousness (sometimes associated with seizures),
Anxiety,
Depression,
Sleep disorders.
Q.4.What kind of hazards it can cause ?
Dr.Saurav Kumar Sarmah:-
More severe and rare neurological complications such as strokes, brain inflammation, delirium and nerve damage.
Q.5. What preventative measures can people take against the corona virus ?
Dr.Saurav Kumar Sarmah:-
Preventive measures that we can follow against COVID-19 are
Social distancing
Wearing a mask
Regular hand washing and hand sanitization
Keeping rooms well ventilated
Avoiding crowds and close contact and
Coughing into a bent elbow or tissue.
Q.6. How Social distancing can help ?
Dr.Saurav Kumar Sarmah:-
Social distancing, also called “physical distancing,” means keeping a safe space between yourself and other people.
COVID-19 spreads mainly among people who are in close contact (within about 6 feet) for a prolonged period. To practice social or physical distancing, stay at least 6 feet (about 2 arm lengths) from other people.
Social distancing should be practiced in combination with other everyday preventive actions to reduce the spread of COVID-19, including wearing masks, avoiding touching your face with unwashed hands, and frequent washing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
By this you can protect yourself and others and break the chain of transmission.
Q.7. Any kind of information about vaccination ?
Dr.Saurav Kumar Sarmah :-
Two vaccines were granted emergency use authorization by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) in India
a) Covishield (AstraZeneca's vaccine manufactured by Serum Institute of India)
b) Covaxin(manufactured by Bharat Biotech Limited)
c) Sputnik - V has been granted EUA in the month of April 2021.
Q.8. How vaccination can prevent Covid-19 ?
Dr.Saurav Kumar Sarmah :-
The COVID-19 vaccines produce protection against the disease, as a result of developing an immune response to the SARS-Cov-2 virus. Developing immunity through vaccination means there is a reduced risk of developing the illness and its consequences.Vaccination protects you from getting seriously ill and dying from COVID-19.This immunity helps you fight the virus if exposed. Getting vaccinated may also protect people around you, because if you are protected from getting infected and from disease, you are less likely to infect someone else. This is particularly important to protect people at increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19, such as healthcare providers, older or elderly adults, and people with other medical conditions.
Q.9. What are the different types of covid vaccines ?
Dr.Saurav Kumar Sarmah :-
a) Covishield vaccine, manufactured by the Serum Institute of India, is a Viral Vector-based Technology which is also used to manufacture Ebola vaccine.
b) Covaxin vaccine, manufactured by the Bharat Biotech, is a Whole-virion Inactivated Coronavirus Vaccine which is also used to manufacture vaccines like Influenza, Rabies and Hepatitis- A.
Covishield contains inactivated adenovirus with segments of Coronavirus and Covaxin contains inactivated Coronavirus
The time interval between two doses of the Covishield vaccine is 12-16 weeks. The second dose of Covaxin can be taken four to six weeks after the first.
Vaccination for COVID-19 is voluntary. However, it is advisable to receive the complete schedule of COVID-19 vaccine for protecting oneself against this disease and also to limit the spread of this disease to the close contacts including family members, friends, relatives and co-workers.
Q.10. Any advice for people from the doctor ?
10.Ans-
After the 1st wave we stopped maintaining COVID precautions so 2nd wave hit us and was more devastating than the 1st wave, and gradually 2nd wave curve is declining and we seem to make the same mistake. So to avoid the occurance of 3rd wave, do take the vaccine 2 doses as per schedule ,1st and 2nd doses should be of same vaccine.
Even after receiving the COVID 19 vaccine, we
must continue taking all precautions like use of masks properly, hand washing and hand sanitization and maintain social distancing (6 feet). Avoid overcrowding and in case of any COVID related symptoms seek medical help immediately for better outcome.
Together we will surely overcome this pandemic.
