Patient Diary A1:

Music Therapy and Physiotherapy- a powerful combination-->

Meet Sindhu Chavan, she is a 73-year old patient who has been affected by cervical spondylosis. After finding that the home remedies were no longer helping her, she decided to seek help from a physiotherapist. I have been treating her to reduce her symptoms to achieve a night of better, pain-free sleep at night.

When music is in the background, the sessions always seem more lively, easier to relax with the patient, and conducive to a positive environment that makes it easy for the patients to do their exercises.

“When the music is not present, all the exercises feel the same. It seems much more like a chore"- Sindhu Chavan

Arm pain after Covid-19 vaccination :

Keeping the arm moving, after your injection can keep the blood flowing in that area to reduce muscle soreness!! This will spread out the immune response rather than concentrating in one spot.

A light workout of the arms after 2-3 days of vaccination is recommended (NO strength training until pain subsides completely).

Post 2: Honest advice- Many people with back pain approach their family doctor or specialist and find a short cut to their pain relief with prescription of medicines or surgery. While this can be a choice, it is important for me as a physiotherapist to highlight the benefits of using exercises as the first line of treatment.

If this post resonates with you, don't forget to like and share it 😇

POST 1:

According to the recent clinical guidelines, chronic low back pain management should involve physiotherapy (exercise therapy) and psychotherapy (if required) as the FIRST line of treatment. Guidelines endorse the cautious use of medication, imaging, and surgery. If there is NO improvement after four weeks of therapy, then only specialist consultation is recommended.

But the reality has been quite different for the management of chronic low back pain as seen in the second image.

As a physiotherapist, it is my right to create this awareness amongst the public to reduce the misuse of opioids and increase the timely use of this natural form of rehabilitation which emphasizes treating the root cause of pain.
So don't you think you should see a physiotherapist right away before taking medications and getting the imaging done?

The increasing use of electronic screens, such as smart phones and laptops, to an average of about 8 hours per day, has led to an increasing number of people with forward head posture.

Research says that individuals are not even aware of their bad posture and consult their doctors at a much later stage. They land up with localized pain and spasms of trapezius and suboccipital muscles.

Effective evidence-based therapy involves:

Pilates training to improve the stability and strength of the core muscles leading to spinal re-alignment. It also helps improve awareness of postural misalignments.
Kinesiotaping provides a mechanical effect in retracting the neck to relieve tension to the upper back and cervical area.
Myofascial release promote maximum relaxation of tense tissues.

So are you facing a related issue? Please do not wait for the pain to worsen. Take help now!
