Our students from Jaipur had a fun and interactive dental hygiene session with Dr. Mary from Italy and her sister Irene from Mumbai.

They conducted a lively and educational dental hygiene session for 32 students from Kishan Bagh and a few from Harmada, teaching them proper brushing techniques through engaging demonstrations and fun songs.

To make learning interactive, students received activity booklets highlighting the importance of good oral hygiene, healthy eating habits, and brushing twice a day. Each child was also given a participation certificate along with a toothbrush, toothpaste, and soap to encourage daily hygiene practices.

A follow-up plan has also been set up for these students with continued support from Mary and Irene. We are deeply grateful to both for their time, compassion, and for inspiring our students to care for their smiles.

On 22nd October, Lok Seva Sangam, in collaboration with , launched a Skin Clinic at Lallubhai Compound, Mankhurd, ensuring accessible healthcare for one of Mumbai’s most underserved communities.

Lallubhai Compound is a large residential colony built under the Slum Rehabilitation Act (SRA), housing over 11,000 families relocated from areas like Chembur, CST, Matunga, and Kurla. With most residents working in the unorganized sector and limited access to medical facilities, it’s often called a “vertical slum.” Skin-related healthcare has been especially unavailable — until now.

On the first day itself, 20 patients benefited from the clinic’s services. The clinic will now operate every Wednesday, offering treatment and promoting early detection of leprosy and other skin conditions.

The launch was graced by Mr. Aftab Shaikh, Director (CPF); Dr. Shabnam Siddiqui, Founder (CPF); Ms. Ethel D’Souza, Director (LSS); Dr. Dilip Jani, Medical Superintendent (LSS); and Dr. Bhagyashree, Medical Officer (LSS).

Together, we move a step closer toward ensuring that quality healthcare reaches every corner of our community.

We were privileged to host senior officials from the ADHS Leprosy Department, Mumbai, who visited Lok Seva Sangam (LSS) this month under the State Government’s National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLEP) to review and guide our ongoing Leprosy Elimination initiatives.

The visiting team included Mr. Dattatray Vasaikar, District NMS, ADHS Leprosy Mumbai, Mr. Harshad Kedar Sir, Dr. Nitin Bavdekar, DNT MO, ADHS (Leprosy) Mumbai, and Mrs. Jyoti Joshi, District Supervisor.

During their visit, they inspected our Leprosy Survey areas, reviewed field operations, verified project records and TRC cards, and assessed staff planning and documentation. They also visited the MAA Hospital Leprosy Referral Centre (LRC) and Baiganwadi Sub-LRC, where they examined patients, reviewed DPMR facilities, checked medicine stock, and offered valuable guidance to our team.

Their insights and encouragement have strengthened our efforts and motivated us to continue working tirelessly towards a Leprosy-Free Mumbai.

🙏 Heartfelt thanks to all visiting officials for their time, support, and guidance.

Volunteer Highlight: Matilde Sottocornola .sottocornola

From Italy to Mumbai — Matilde joined us for a month in August under the Youth Leadership Programme. From teaching to playing football with the kids, she found joy in the simple things and built bonds that crossed languages and cultures.

We’re grateful for her dedication and for bringing her light, energy, and compassion to the LSS family.

Happy Birthday Fr Torriani!

On this special day, we celebrate our beloved founder, born on 04.09.1935. He came to India in 1965, completed his MSW from TISS, and dedicated his life to serving leprosy patients by establishing Lok Seva Sangam in 1975. Having accepted Indian citizenship, he worked selflessly until 2019, when he returned to Italy for major surgery.

Wishing him good health and continued blessings. May his legacy of compassion continue to inspire us all.
