Types of Pain 🌟
├── 1. ACUTE PAIN
│ ➡️ Sudden onset, short duration (≤3 months)
│ 🔺 Related to injury, surgery, trauma
│
│ 🔵 Examples:
│ - Ankle sprain
│ - Surgical incision
│ - Fracture
│
│ ♻️ PT Management:
│ - RICE: Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation
│ - Pain-relieving modalities (TENS, cryotherapy, ultrasound)
│ - Early gentle ROM exercises
│ - Postural advice & activity modification
│
├── 2. CHRONIC PAIN
➡️ Persists >3–6 months
➡️ May exist beyond tissue healing
➡️ Divided into subtypes:
├── A. NOCICEPTIVE PAIN
│ ➡️ Due to tissue injury or inflammation
│
│ i. SOMATIC Pain
│ 🔵 Examples:
│ - O.A
│ - Tendinitis
│ - Mechanical low back pain
│
│ ♻️ PT Management:
│ - Manual therapy (mobilizations, soft tissue work)
│ - Strengthening and flexibility exercises
│ - Postural correction
│ - Thermal modalities (hot/cold)

│ ii. VISCERAL Pain
│ 🔵 Examples:
│ - Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
│ - Renal colic
│ - Endometriosis
│

│ - Relaxation techniques
│ - Breathing & diaphragm exercises
│ - Pain education
│ - Gentle mobility if tolerated

├── B. NEUROPATHIC PAIN
│ ➡️ Due to nerve injury or dysfunction
│
│ i. CENTRAL Neuropathic Pain
│ 🔵 Examples:
│ - Post-stroke pain
│ - Multiple sclerosis (MS)
│ - Spinal cord injury
│
│ ♻️ PT Management:
│ - Neuro-rehab (motor control, coordination)
│ - Sensory re-education
│ - Gait & balance training
│ - Functional task retraining

│ ii. PERIPHERAL Neuropathic Pain
