The Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation (MDWS) commissioned “Swachh Sarvekshan Grameen-2018” (SSG 2018) through an independent survey agency (Kantar Public) to rank all districts of India on the basis of quantitative and qualitative sanitation (Swachhata) parameters.

In 2011, the Government of India’s Census found that 53.1% of households nationally, and 69.3% of

households in rural areas had no water closet or latrine and practice open defecation. Too

mitigate the situation, the Government launched a nationwide programme in 2014 named the

Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM). The programme aims to make India free from open defecation

and ensure 100% scientific management of municipal solid waste by 02 October 2019.

Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) is a programme that moves away from the conventional approach of merely creating infrastructure to an integrated 'utility-based' approach with undivided focus on long-term 'service delivery' by building capacity at the loc
