Signs & Symptoms of Colorectal Polyps - What to watch for

• Per‑rectal bleeding - small amounts of blood mixed with or covering stools
• Mucous discharge with stools - may make stools looser or look like mild diarrhea
• Most polyps cause no symptoms at all

Important: Polyps removed at colonoscopy are sent for histopathology to identify the type and guide how often surveillance colonoscopy is needed. If a polyp is precancerous or cancerous, additional treatment (for example surgery) may be required.

What is it?
An anorectal abscess is a painful collection of pus from an infection in the a**l ca**l or re**um. It most often starts when a**l glands become blocked.

Common causes
-Blocked a**l glands leading to infection
-Bacteria and f***l material entering the gland or tissue
-Inflammatory bowel disease: Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis
-Weakened immunity or infections such as HIV/AIDS and some STDs

Typical symptom
-Localized pain and swelling around the a**s (often severe, worse with sitting or bowel movements)

When to see a specialist
-Severe or worsening pain
-Fever, chills, or drainage of pus
-Recurrent abscesses or history of Crohn’s disease
