NAUSEA / VOMITING IN PREGNANCY – Natural Remedies
Nausea and vomiting during pregnancy, commonly known as morning sickness, affect up to 70-80% of expectant mothers, especially in the first trimester. Despite the name, symptoms can occur at any time of day. While it’s often a normal part of early pregnancy due to hormonal changes (particularly rising hCG and estrogen), it can range from mild queasiness to more severe forms like hyperemesis gravidarum, which may require medical attention.
Common Natural Remedies:
1. Ginger: Known for its anti-nausea properties, ginger tea, ginger ale (non-carbonated, low-sugar), or ginger capsules can help ease symptoms.
2. Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine): Often recommended in mild to moderate cases; helps reduce nausea without adverse effects.
3. Peppermint: Peppermint tea or essential oil inhalation can soothe the stomach.
4. Frequent Small Meals: Eating light, bland foods (like crackers or toast) every 2-3 hours can help stabilize blood sugar and reduce nausea.
5. Stay Hydrated: Sip small amounts of water, coconut water, or clear broths regularly to avoid dehydration.
6. Acupressure Bands: Sea bands or wristbands that apply pressure to the P6 point may reduce nausea in some women.
7. Avoid Triggers: Strong smells, heat, and certain foods can worsen nausea. Keeping the environment cool and ventilated can help.
Note: Always consult a healthcare professional before starting supplements or alternative treatments, especially during pregnancy.
