Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre (JHRC) was established in the early 1970s by philanthropist Seth Lokoomal Chanrai. Mehta, the doyen of the medical profession in India, was the one who translated Seth Lokoomal Chanrai's vision into reality. The name ‘Jaslok’ was derived from the names of Seth Lokoomal and his wife, Smt. Deshmukh Marg, Peddar Road, which is the main artery of South Mumbai, overlooking the Arabian Sea. The hospital was inaugurated on 6th July 1973 by the erstwhile Prime Minister Late. Indira Gandhi. JHRC serves over 35 specialties with 357 beds, over 300 Consultants and more than 150 well-trained trained resident doctors. It also has a College of Nursing being recognized by the National Board of Examinations in 22 specialties. The departments are equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure and advanced technology that is manned by trained & dedicated staff, many of whom are renowned Trainers in the country. JHRC takes special interest in Research activities in collaboration with other institutions in India & abroad. The Centres of Excellence at JHRC excels in Assisted Reproduction, Cardiac Sciences, Critical Care, Gastro Sciences, Neuro Sciences, Renal Sciences and Onco Sciences with several firsts in the country and in the world. Most of these Centres of Excellence are leading and largest in their own specialty across the country fortified by Super Specialists with over 30 years of experience, specialty dedicated nurses and paramedics, state-of-the-art technologies and modern infrastructure. The Hospital has also played an important role in serving the less fortunate sections of the society which was an important part of the vision of its founders. 36 IS (Indigent section) and 36 WS (Weaker section) beds in the hospital are offered free of charge. Since its inception, the hospital has maintained a significant number of free and subsidized beds. In addition, Jaslok Hospital treats patients from some institutions including orphanages like the “BalAsha Trust” / AshaSadan free of cost. Concessions are also offered to Senior Citizens and an active social work department helps the needy patients with donations from Trusts. JHRC, duly performed their duties towards the society during the pandemic and as a part of the CSR vaccinated over 4, 50,000 citizens free of cost in Mumbai.
