How much protein in urine is normal?
A protein in urine test, also known as a urine protein test or urine albumin test, is a medical test that determines the amount of protein in a person’s urine. The test is commonly used to assess kidney function and detect any potential abnormalities or disorders affecting the kidneys or urinary system.
Normally, the kidneys filter waste and excess chemicals from the blood, such as protein, which are subsequently released through urine. However, if the kidneys are not working correctly, proteins may pass through into the urine. Proteinuria, defined as the presence of an abnormally high level of protein in the urine, can indicate kidney injury, inflammation, infection, or other disorders.
