🌟Is calorie deficit better or high metabolism?🌟
You might have read or heard this alot before. Portion size and calorie deficit is the key to weight loss.
Well I don't disagree and neither I am against it. I am one of the dietitians who is an advocate of the same.
However, calorie deficit is only a piece of the whole fat loss puzzle. It is just the first step. You can technically keep on having a burger all the time, remain in calorie deficit in order to lose weight. But this weight loss won't give any benefits to you. 300 calories from protein, for example, feels different and does different things for the body than 300 calories from carbohydrates.
Therefore more than calories, high metabolism is a must for real fat loss. A weight loss with only calorie deficit will ultimately plateau or you might even gain weight.
It is important to have high metabolism that helps in long term fat loss. Inorder to increase your metabolism and therefore lose fat, it is important to include all the 3 key ingredients for fat loss on which I spoke before.

🌟How to store vegetables to keep them fresh?🌟
🍆Fruits and vegetables are divided in to "gas releasers" and "gas sensitive". Those that release ethylene gas should not be stored with gas sensitive ones because they speed up the ripening process of the gas sensitive vegetables.
🥒Fruits like apples, fig, kiwi, plum, peaches and tomatoes are gas releasers and therefore should be stored separately from vegetables like broccoli, brussel sprouts, carrots, cauliflower, cabbage, cucumber, eggplant, leafy greens, peppers; as these are gas sensitive vegetables.
🥬Storing leafy greens is still a challenge. Vegetables like lettuce, bok choy, kale, spinach should be washed and thoroughly dried before refrigerating. Store the leaves in a clean towel away from any moisture.
🧄Vegetables like potatoes, garlic, onions should not be refrigerated and be kept in cool, dry environment without direct sunlight.
🧅Vegetables that can transfer their smells like onions should be stored separately from other vegetables.

Protein is the single most important nutrient for weight loss and a better looking body. Protein can help you lose weight and belly fat, and it works via several different mechanisms.
🍗Protein reduces levels of the hunger hormone ghrelin, while it boosts the appetite-reducing hormones GLP-1, peptide YY and cholecystokinin. This leads to an automatic reduction in calorie intake.
🍗About 20-30% of protein calories are burned while the body is digesting and metabolizing the protein.
🍗A high protein intake can make you burn 80-100 more calories per day, with one study showing an increase of 260 calories during overfeeding.

We covered raw vegetables and salads, today let's take a look at some veggies that can be prepped for cooking.🥕🥬🍅 They can be either grilled or roasted beforehand, or just chopped to be used in your cooking so that your meal is prepared easily.
Grilled or roasted vegetables are really handy and can be added in your salads, pastas, sandwiches, rolls, eggs or just made as a sabzi. 🥗🥙🌯🌮
These include:
-Onions, bell peppers, zucchini, eggplant/Brinjal, green beans or any other seasonal vegetables you like to be made as sabzi like lady fingers.🧄🫑
-You can also use carrots, broccoli, brusel sprouts. All these vegetables can be stored in the fridge for 4 to 5 days after grilling and roasting.🥦🥕🍠

🌟Three key nutrients for fat loss🌟
You might have heard of these 3 nutrients alot, but let's understand WHY are these important for fat loss.
Unlike popular opinion, eat less is not the answer. Infact eating right and nourishing your body is important.
Protein helps you to build muscle mass which in turn helps to keep your metabolism high. With higher metabolism you lose fat even when you are at rest.
Healthy fats does NOT make you fat. It is important for many functions in your body including hormone functions. Hormonal balance is important for fat loss. Fat also keeps you full therefore removing it completely goes against weight loss.
Fiber includes starchy and non starchy vegetables, fruits and whole carbs. The more you include these in your diet, more you can lose your fat. As it is digested slowly, keeps your blood sugar balanced and therefore you don't get cravings. So you lose weight easily.

🌟The best vegetables that can be prepped beforehand🌟
Raw vegetables are good for snacks. They are also perfect for adding to salads or for quick side dish like stirred fried ones.🥕🥬
Most of these vegetables I am listing, they remain fresh for 4 to 5 days.
-They include bell peppers, brocoli, carrots, cauliflower, cherry tomatoes, radishes, cucumber🥒🥕🍅. All of these can be washed and cut according to how you like and stored in the fridge.
Adding greens in salads or smoothies or just making a low oil sabzi also makes a huge difference.🥬
-Kale, lettuce, cabbage, spinach all these remain fresh for 5 to 7 days. You can wash and chop them the way you want and store.
Apart from raw vegetables and greens, some vegetables can be used to grill or roast a bit, so that it saves you time during cooking. However that depends on your own preference.

🌟What is the hierarchy of your health goals? 🌟
Few posts back I explained that fat loss doesn't happen with just good food and workout. There's more to it. Even before fat loss, you need to have real health goals.
In this post it explains that what is more important from those pieces.
You might think that nutrition and movement is the most important BUT no. The very first is your relationship with your body which directly affects your relationship with your food. And the very last is fat loss.
Unless you don't have other aspects of health goals, nutrition and movement doesn't make sense, and real fat loss cannot happen.

🌟How to prep and store your veggies?🌟
Once you have planned on your veggies which you will be eating the coming week, it's time to prepare it🔪🥦🥬. By prepare I don't really mean to cook it all. But just to prepare it a bit, so when it's time to cook half of your work is done.💪
Prepping your veggies can range from washing, cutting, chopping and even half cook it for some meals depending on the vegetable and the way you wish to eat it.🥗🍱
Once you have done washing, cutting, chopping all you have to do is store them in zip lock bag and/or containers and freeze them.🌯🧆
Different type of vegetable have different storing needs depending on how long they stay fresh in the fridge/freezer. I will be covering this next.

🌟How to plan for your meal prep session?🌟
Starting meal prep for one week is efficient way to start with the same. Meal prep should help you, not overwhelm you. Therefore start slow and go step by step.👣
❌You don't need to cook all the meals for the week. Infact starting with preparing ingredients is a great way and can make a huge difference for the week.✅
1⃣The very first thing you can do is sit and prepare a meal plan for the week.📑 In this case since we are talking about veggies, you want to plan how you will be including vegetables in your diet during the week - it can be just salads, or stirred fried or roasted vegs or sabzi cooked in low oil.🥬🍆
2⃣Once you have your meal plan ready for the week, it is time to make a grocery list for the same📑. Make sure that all the veggies you use in your meals are seasonal. Seasonal produce provide you with better nutrients and can remain longer in your fridge.🥦🥕
Once you have planned with your veggies, it's time to actually prepare it and store the produce. Will dig into this in the next post.

🌟Did you know that fat loss is more than just good nutrition and working out?🌟
Yes true, you can have a very healthy diet and workout perfectly, but if you do not sleep a good night's sleep or maybe you are stressed about something, then your metabolic rate drops and you are unable to lose those inches!
Almost everytime we blame food or not being so active, but good metabolism and fat loss also depends on so many other factors including food and movement like stress, sleep, hydration, gut health and even blood sugar levels.
Make sure to balance all of these for efficient fat loss.

🌟How can you include more vegetables in your diet? - Meal prep 1🌟
We all know that including more vegetables in our diet is a key to long term health. However we all fail at bringing it into our plates during our meal times because either we don't have it in our pantry or we are too lazy to do all the washing, cutting and chopping. Most of the times it is also because of the flavor or the way of cooking that is boring for us.
I, almost have a goal to eat vegetables🥑🥬🥦 in all my meals. Do you have it too? I tell myself that I will have vegetable in all my meals including breakfast and snacks. But sadly it is easy said than done.
Being a mom and a housewife🧕 it definitely becomes difficult to think of eating healthy all the time. However this can become easy if we do some planning📑 ahead of time. I have become a big advocate of planning ahead these days. Planning ahead of time with a meal prep saves you time during the week.
When you look at your refrigerator filled with colorful vegetables🥒🍆🍅🥕, it becomes easy to snack on it rather than going for junk. Therefore meal prepping is really a must if you are serious about your health and include nutritious food in your diet.
