TKR Series: Immediately After Surgery to 5 Days Post-Operation (at Hospital)
Total Knee Replacement (TKR) is a major procedure, and understanding the immediate post-operative period is essential for patients. Here's the typical journey in the first five days:
1. Immediate Recovery: Post-surgery, you'll be in a recovery room for a few hours. Monitoring vital signs and pain levels is crucial at this stage. Following the surgery one may expect few tubes coming out of body - 1. From the back(epidural catheter) for pain relief, 2. Foleyβs catheter for drainage of urine, 3. Drain from operated site. These tubes generally comes of in 2 days time
2. Pain Management: Pain is expected, but controlled. You'll be provided with pain-relief medications to ensure comfort.
3. Physical Therapy: Early mobilization aids recovery. Within a day, therapists may guide you to perform basic movements.
4. Swelling Control: Expect some swelling. Techniques like elevating the leg or using cold packs help manage it.
5. Wound Monitoring: Medical staff will regularly check your surgical site, ensuring cleanliness and watching for signs of infection.
6. Education: Hospital staff will guide you on post-operative care, preparing you for the subsequent healing stages.
