The Nirman Foundation, a registered Charitable Trust is a NGO that connects with many Indians through various social initiatives like education, healthcare , social upliftment of woman and children. Its flagship project is “The Eye Donation Campaign”, which has created awareness amongst more than a lakh people in India about this noble cause. Nirman Foundation has given hope to hundreds of people to regain and conquer their respective visual impairments. The foundation visits colleges, corporates, marriage ceremonies and various other institutions with the aim of spreading awareness amongst the youth regarding the societal benefits of eye donation. As a result of this initiative, we have received an overwhelming response, where nearly 4000 people have come forward and pledged their eyes so far. Our vision and goal, is to ultimately make India Blind-Free by 2025. There are approximately 16 lakh Indians who suffer from some form of visual impairment in the form of defected corneas, and are desperately waiting to gain their sight back through transplantation. In India, unlike in western countries, there is a strong lack of awareness with regards to eye donation. Primarily, due to this reason, the majority of people are not coming forward to pledge or donate their eyes, or that of their deceased loved ones. Nirman Foundation through the Eye Donation Campaign plans to create a strong awareness amongst people especially youth who can become our concept ambassadors with a long term perspective in mind whereby India can become an eye surplus nation by 2025. Nirman Foundation is a Registered Charitable trust, which was established in the year 2010. The trust has the objective of working at the grass root level of society with focus on education, healthcare ,woman empowerment, woman employment, and social upliftment of the economically backward & challenged societies. Nirman Foundation was conceptualized by Mr. Vinit Goenka and Mr. Mark Barnes two friends residing in Borivali. Both of them have active social life and have done various projects in area of education, health and woman & child development in their respective lives. In the year 2010 the untimely death of one of close friend of our Founder Trustees Mr. Vinit and Mr Mark led them to the thought of Eye Donation. How will the friend be still alive and witness the world …To keep his memories alive , The idea of Eye Donation came into the mind of Mr. Vinit– “Seeing the World with Your Eyes even after death”. They both approached the friends wife with the thought with lot of hesitation and patience ….the idea may have backfired… But the lady agreed at one go and that brought tears to the eyes of the Founder Trustees. The courage and the conviction of the lady was beyond any words and she knew that her husband’s eyes will always see this world. He will be alive through two persons who will get his eyes to see the world. This incident left a deep impression on the minds of the trustees. Vinit and Mr. Mark both pledged that by 2025 India will be Eye Surplus Nation. Nirman Foundation witnessed a lot of challenge in this area Donation. When we tried to approach a few families who lost their near and dear ones for eye donation, the response was not encouraging rather there were emotional outbursts too. It was not the fault of the families and the relatives but what was observed was the society at large was not ready for this yet. Due to emotional, religious or personal sentiments this concept was not an accepted norm. Infact there isn’t much awareness created by the authorities too. Nirman Foundation and its trustees accepted the challenge of creating India as an Eye Surplus Nation. The first step in this regard was to do massive awareness campaign especially amongst the youth and the educated class. The youth will act as the concept ambassadors for next 50-70 years. The next generation will benefit too if the youth is aware and adopts this concept. Trustees:

Activities conducted :
Nirman Foundation has conducted following activities in past few years since it has been formed.
1) Free Eye Check Up Camp
2) Blood Donation Camp
3) Eye Donation Awareness Campaign in Colleges, Coaching Classes, Events and Exhibitions of Engineering colleges like DIPEX, Societies, Rotary Club.
4) Ms. Orna Sagiv Consul General of Israel visited the kids of adjoining slum areas and tribal kids of the National park Borivali region and handed them gifts like Books, Umbrellas and Drawing kits.
5) Nirman Foundation has visited the marriages of three couples and the couples have pledged their eyes for donation on the day of the wedding.
6) Tie-up with SNDT University and several other colleges in Mumbai. Endorsements
