Ours has been an interesting story - one that inspired the book: ACC - Trusted by Generations, Tested by Time. An integral part of this story, spanning over eight decades, have been our passionate and dedicated employees like the members of Gill family for generations. In 1940, S Jagir Singh Gill joined ACC’s Bhupendra Cement Works at Surajpur. Seeing the pride and confidence in being a part of ACC, Jagir’s son Gian Singh and a few decades later his grandson, Harpal Singh also joined us. The family’s loyalty and tradition of being a part of ACC is now being carried forward by Hardeep Gill, the fourth generation from the family.

ACC’s relationships-led way of working reflects in our commitment to empower our people to drive positive change, which in turn motivates them to be a part of ACC’s journey.

It all began way back in 1967 in Mancherial, Telangana, when Ramprasad Vyas started a dealership with ACC. Ramprasad was succeeded by his son, Jugal, who expanded the dealership and won the respect and trust of his customers. Nearly 50 years later, Jugal’s son, Gopal Vyas, an engineer, combined his keen interest in manufacturing with his own ambitions and is now continuing his family’s relationship with ACC by successfully running a Green Building Centre (GBC) in Mancherial to manufacture superior quality eco-friendly building materials. The association of Vyas' with ACC for more than 50 years, lasting three generations, has been nurtured by trust and strong values. On the 84th year of ACC's founding, we salute our partners like the Vyas family who are an asset and the bedrock of ACC.

Today, we commemorate the historic day, 1st August, 1936, when ten cement companies came together in a historic merger, the country's first notable merger at a time when the terms merger and acquisition was not even coined, to form ACC. Carrying forward the spirit of its founders of being trailblazers, ACC has pioneered and transformed itself to be a building materials company with innovative products and solutions. With its experience and expertise spanning over eight decades, ACC continues to actively contribute to India’s progress. On Founders’ Day, we salute the countless employees and other stakeholders who have been an indispensable part of ACC's legacy.

The coronacrisis is re-shaping the world of work, and the world of learning. To ensure we have a future-ready workforce, the ACC-Ambuja Learning Academy (AALA) is delivering virtual training courses to its sales teams that hone specific skill-sets. Centering on Sales & Marketing themes such as Strengthening Channel Relationships, Managing Conflict as well as offering meaningful insights into concrete manufacturing and effective construction practices, these carefully crafted sessions have been a smash hit with participants. In the months since lockdown, ~ 36 topics covering over 5000 sales and customer service attendees, were delivered by 27 experts.

We believe that even after normalcy returns, interactive digital learning will grow in popularity because it combines the structure, strategic curricula, and dynamic interactions of an in-person class with the flexibility, comfort, and reduced costs of distance learning.

Now more than ever, mental health is assuming as much significance as physical health. The outbreak of COVID-19 and the subsequent lockdown have been an overwhelming cause of stress and anxiety for many. Social distancing can make people feel isolated and lonely leading to further anxiety. To help our employees and their families navigate through this very difficult time, ACC is organizing webinars on health, mental well-being and resilience by eminent psychiatrist Dr Nilesh Shah and team from Ambrosian Well-being & Engagement Resources Pvt. Ltd. ~1500 employees have already attended these webinars to learn coping strategies during this challenging time.

The pandemic has spawned a mental health crisis: lockdowns, social distancing, the impact on jobs and business, have exacerbated feelings of anxiety and isolation. The strain of working from home, juggling chores and children while focusing on a video call, takes its toll. For people who live alone, frustration and loneliness can creep in.

To help them cope, ACC is encouraging its employees and their families to use its well-being initiative “Sparsh - A Caring Connection” where trained professionals offer a safe space for callers to express their concerns, offering emotional support and equipping them with coping skills and perspectives.

Talk to a friend or a professional. You are not alone.

Bhubaneshwar is one of the fastest-growing cities in Odisha state: it is an emerging information technology (IT) and education hub. One of Bhubaneshwar's residents, Mr. Anjan Kumar Jena of Nayapaali, was keen to participate in the development and urbanisation of his city. Developing his own shopping cm commercial building was his dream project. Construction work was going on at a quick pace when the COVID-19 pandemic struck. Due to the country-wide lockdown in India, work on his project was suspended for several weeks. Any further delays would have led to significant cost and time overruns. Hence, as soon as the government relaxed the lockdown in some areas, ACC stepped in to support Mr Jena in making up for lost time by ensuring timely and uninterrupted supply of premium quality ready-mix concrete for his project.

ACC Concrete is proud to partner with Mr. Jena and his ambitious project that will help the city of Bhubaneshwar grow as well as create employment opportunities for many people.

Ventilators save lives. But these are in short supply as the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in India puts tremendous pressure on the existing healthcare system. Maharashtra, the worst hit state with ~82,000 confirmed cases – the highest in the country, is in dire need of ventilators to save precious lives. To better equip our healthcare professionals to fight this war against the pandemic, ACC and Ambuja Cement, part of the LafargeHolcim group, have begun donating 15 government-specification ventilators to government hospitals in Maharashtra that need them most.

The recent super cyclonic storm Amphan wreaked havoc in eastern part of the country, with ferocious winds and rains uprooting a massive number of trees, flattening thousands of houses in its path and causing widespread flooding. As the calamity unfolded, ACC stepped to the forefront of relief efforts in West Bengal. In consultation with the local authorities, ACC began working with its local dealer and CFA network to immediately begin distributing essentials such as ration kits, tarpaulins and hygiene kits to ~2500 families in South 24 Parganas and East Midnapore districts. “The entire team at Society for Heritage & Ecological Researches (SHER) is indebted to ACC for its humanitarian support. I would like to express my gratitude to ACC for standing by the Sunderbans in the aftermath of cyclone Amphan. ACC has given us the faith to hope for a better tomorrow in these unprecedented times”, says Mr Joydip Kundu, General Secretary, SHER. The journey to recovery is long but ACC is determined to help where it can.

Building his own home has been a dream project of Mr. Amarbir Singh from Gurdaspur, Punjab. His contractor, a loyal customer of ACC cement, began construction using ACC GOLD WATER SHIELD cement right from the foundation of the building. However, the countywide lockdown to prevent the spread of COVID-19 posed a challenge and slowed down construction.

To continue serving customers like Mr Singh and ensure that their projects resume as quickly as possible, ACC rose to the challenge and began operating its cement plants within the scope of the government guidelines, and is ensuring uninterrupted delivery of cement to consumers through its trusted channel partners. Mr Amarbir Singh has quickly resumed construction of his dream home!

Serving humanity selflessly:
Meet Dropadi, a simple woman from Jamul, Chattisgarh, who rose to the task of protecting her community from COVID-19. Having received training in industrial tailoring at ACC TRUST’s alternative livelihood DISHA centre, she utilised her skills to serve the community by working round-the-clock to produce 1500 three-layered face-masks for free distribution to healthcare workers and essential service providers. Wadi in Karnataka's Gulbarga district has rich limestone and sahabad stone mines that attract workers from across the country in search of seasonal livelihood opportunities. The nationwide lockdown on account of COVID-19 and lack of daily wages have adversely affected these workers, forcing them to take shelter in public areas with inadequate basic facilities. We are proud of our ACC volunteers who visited the workers and provided assistance – from ACC's Chief Medical Officer who conducted the primary health screening and educated them on hygiene, social distancing and staying safe during the pandemic, to providing shelter and necessary facilities at ACC colony in Wadi. While they are being quarantined, these volunteers are providing food and provisions as well as basic necessities. ACC is committed to supporting vulnerable communities during this crisis.

Hundreds of women are working round-the-clock to produce face-masks for frontline workers fighting COVID-19 across the country. As India is facing an acute shortage of face-masks, ACC TRUST has stepped in and engaged its associate Self Help Grops (SHGs) across its countrywide ecosystem to produce three-layered face-masks that are the need of the hour. Over the years, ACC' s alternative livelihood DISHA centres have trained thousands of women in local communities in vocational skills such as industrial tailoring and encouraged them to form Self-Help Groups (SHGs). Now, to protect workers who are fighting on the frontlines, ACC is using this network of trained women to produce much-needed masks for local municipalities, santitation workers, vegetable vendors and those who are providing essential services. It also helps them contribute to the household income at a time when other family members are not going out to work. ACC TRUST has produced and dispatched ~ 23,000 triple-layered masks thus far, and in the next few days, another 20,000 masks will be ready for dispatch.

India’s three-week lockdown to stop the contagion of COVID-19 has badly impacted migrant workers who live far away from their families. ACC is providing fuel wood to brick kiln labourers stranded in Medersara village in Chattisgarh, working alongside the local gram panchayat which is making food arrangements for the labourers. Every single one of us has to play our part in the fight against COVID-19 and ACC is committed to do its bit.

Like many other villages across the country, the current lockdown due to the COVID-19 outbreak has disrupted the lives of many, including over 13,000 inhabitants of Dehlan, the largest village of Himachal Pradesh. To help protect local communities against the pandemic, ACC TRUST joined hands with the local village authorities of Dehlan, to sanitize the entire village comprising ~250 households.
