Consent is a fairly complex topic and the way we engage with our children represents what we think or understand of consent .

We can do better. If we want to change the world's understanding of consent, we need to start at home.⁣⁣⁣

When the underlying message kids get from us is “you get to be in charge of your own body,” that message sticks with them. When they are in a situation that doesn’t feel safe, they will know they can trust themselves. They will trust it’s safe for them to speak up, and that we will listen when they say something is wrong.⁣
⁣

Please read through the post for easy options to very common responses to our kids.

-Kids aren’t responsible for how we feel!!
- The situation that you are in probably upsets us but we need to address that with the adult( you) and not the child.
- try and keep a calm talking voice and face while responding to your child.
- discuss the trigger at a later point if it is a recurrent theme.
- know that you are not perfect and might slip a couple of times .. it happens to the best of us.

This cheat sheet gives you a great idea of what to expect before your child starts writing!

Points to remember

✏️ there might be minor variations in when these pre writing milestones happen so pace your self.

✏️ use little writing tools for little hands.

✏️ prep your little hands for writing using clay, blocks, self feeding and loose piece play.

✏️ help it be fun... structured time for working on fine motor skills is great but the activities can be multisensory and very varied.. trace on salt, use clay for formation, wet-dry-try method.
