When the work of Swami Kuvalayanandaji to investigate the effects of Yoga in a scientific way became well known, more and more number of people started coming to the institute at Lonavla with a desire to learn Yoga for the purpose of health and healing. As their number grew, they requested Swamiji to open a branch of the institute in Mumbai itself. In response to these requests the Mumbai branch o
f Kaivalyadhama was started on 6th January, 1932, in the suburbs of Mumbai. Later on, for a greater convenience of the people, the Yogic Health Centre was shifted from the suburb to its present site at Marine Drive. A substantial donation from Sir Chunilal Mehta, made it possible for the Health Centre to have its own building. In the memory of Sir Mehta’s son, it was renamed as Ishwardas Chunilal Yogic Health Centre (ICYHC) Kaivalyadhama and was inaugurated as a full-fledged centre on 30th April, 1936. One of the most unique concepts that Kaivalyadhama has been following over the years is Yoga under medical supervision. As per this feature, registered doctors check each member before assigning them a customised Yoga program. Thus the 'consultation + therapy' concept is followed. The customised program includes Yoga practices, Kriyas, Naturopathy, Panchkarma and Ayurveda. Thereafter, follow-up monthly check-ups are conducted by the doctors to monitor the member's progress. At present, ICYHC Kaivalyadhama - Mumbai has the following facilities:

The main constraints in the urban lifestyle are lack of leisure, aggravation due to loss of family life and no privacy in daily life. The external causes are pollution, stress, pressures and strains of one’s profession and those created by heavy traffic. Just as the carburetor of your car gets chocked, so too many parts of the body get plugged due to excessive and vitiated DOSHAS. Washing, cleaning and greasing are the regular procedures to make our body function smoothly. Ayurveda, an age old Science and its copartner, Yoga, have recommended a daily health regimen for individuals to enjoy a happy and healthy life. IV. Naturopathy :
Naturopathy is a drugless system of cure which makes use of self-healing mechanisms of the body to treat disease naturally, without any medicines. How are diseases treated in Naturopathy? Disease-specific diet is prescribed. Lifestyle modifications are introduced. Healing water treatments are prescribed, if required. (These include do-at-home treatments like packs, hot foot immersion, ice bag application, hot fomentation etc)
